I tried adding a photo to my Favorites Album by hearting it, but for some reason it won't add. When I go to iPhotos on my Mac it doesn't show up at all. I took this picture with my Cannon camera. Can you only add a picture to your Favorites if it's taken with an iPhone?

You can make any photo a favorite on your iPhone, that has been saved to the Photos Library.
But if you want the Favorite heart to sync between the iPhone and the Mac, you need to use iCloud Photos to keep the Photos Library on the Mac and the iPhone in sync. My Photo Stream or iTunes does not transfer the Favorite tag.

Thank you for your reply! I uploaded my pictures to iCloud Photos, my iPhone and Mac is synced, so it's weird that it isn't working. This photo shows up on the "All Photos" Album but not the "Photos" Album on iPhotos.
If the photos are in All Photos, but not in Photos, you may only be seeing My Photo Stream.
Check, if System Preferences > iCloud > iCloud Photos is still enabled. Also Photos > Preferences > iCloud > iCloud Photos. If both Preference Settings are still as they should be, restart the Mac and wait.
What is the Status bar showing below Photos? is it showing "Uploading" or "Updated Just Now"? If Photos for Mac is still "Uploading" it may take a while, before the iCloud versions will sync to the Mac.
If the Photos are still not appearing in Photos , even if the upload has finished, the Photos Library may have a corruption and may need repairing. If you want to try a repair, make a current backup copy of your library. After the repair, the iCloud sync will start all over again and you will have to wait for new , complete upload to iCloud. It may take a long time.
