"Service battery" warning occurred in new MacBook pro

Hi,

I purchased new MacBook Pro (13 inch, core i5, 256Gb with Touch Bar).

  1. When I opened the MacBook Pro, it was charged to 100%. Hence, I decided to use without charging.
  2. Everything went well. But, after some 5 hours of use, (At that time battery percentage was about 45%) MacBook Pro suddenly turned OFF and didn't respond even to Power Button. It only turned ON when I started charging it.
  3. I noticed that battery percentage was decreased to 0%!!.
  4. Later I noticed that, battery icon had warning saying "Service Battery", but I continued charging.
  5. However after charging the "Service Battery" changed to "Normal" automatically.

Do you think I should change my laptop? It is just 2 days, and I didn't expect this from Apple MacBook Pro.

Is this means laptop battery is not proper?

Thanks & Regards,

Aravind D. Chakravarti

I would say bring it in for a diagnostic. I've seen (in an older MacBook) a battery that went crazy - initially reporting negative capacity until later it reported that it was healthy. Even then, when I brought it to an Apple Store for a diagnostic they told me that they could check the battery's "history". It was out of warranty, but they did offer a "service replacement" since it was clearly defective, although out of warranty.

Where are you located? I would recommend going to an Apple Store if available. They never charge for a diagnostic in my experience. If not available, an AASP may charge for a diagnostic, but wouldn't charge you if they determine it's a covered defect.
