mojave wifi IPv6

I have recently bought a new iMac (2019, 27") with Mojave. I moved all my old iMac material from my old computer. When I attempt to use wifi it will not get an IPv4 address. When I use my phone hot spot, it gets an IPv6 address as it does when I connect directly to my Spectrum modem by Ethernet. When I boot into safe mode it works correctly and gets an IPv4 address. Any ideas?

Many thanks-

Hi there Cablephil,

This could be down to either your iMac or your ISPs router, so here is what I recommend you do:

  • Connect you iMac via ethernet and wait for an IP address, if your device doesn't automatically obtain an address, go into the advanced options of your ethernet connection, and select "Renew DHCP Lease", this will send a request for a new IP address from your router.

  • If the previous option does not work, while your iMac is connected to your router via ethernet, restart your router, as to make sure it re-identifies all the devices that connect to it.

Hope this helps. : )
