icloud id on an previously used ipod

I got this ipod touch from a goodwill as-is store. It didn't work so I purchased a battery for it and now it works & holds a charge. But now I can't use it because previous owner didn't erase their info from it and I don't know who they are so I can't ask them to remove device from their account. What do I do???
