Some pictures are rendered incorrectly. For example a screenshot from apples webpage below.

My Phone is an XS Max running ios 12.4. Issues were also present before upgrading.

It sounds like that, yes. Since your iPhone is still under warranty period, I would have it inspected at an Apple Store or Authorized Service Provider:--> Apple – Location Selector

You need to restore the device to factory settings and set it up as new.
I have reset my iPhone to factory settings but the problems still persist. Can it be hardware related?
