Apple Pencil on 2017 iPad Pro no longer accurate

I’ve noticed on my 12.9 inch 2017 iPad Pro that the pen accuracy has dropped significantly. More specifically... if I hold a ruler (book, something flat) onto the screen and draw a slow line, you will see jagged lines at fixed intervals. This looks like an issue with the sensor/algorithm. Just in case, I replaced the tip on the pencil to no effect.

The only other thing I can think of is that perhaps the pencil itself needs to be replaced. Or.. and worst case scenario... the iPad’s algorithm changed and it sucks now? I doubt that, but I know the iPad passed the ruler test before (that’s why I bought it) no matter how slow.

Any thoughts? Should I attempt replacing the pencil itself?

There is the possibility that there maybe something wrong with the Apple Pencil.

If you have an Apple Store or Apple reseller close to you, bring both your iPad and Pencil and try a new Pencil on your iPad to see if the issue goes away, or not.

It is worth a shot just to make sure it is not your iPad Pro or your current Apple Pencil.

If still no joy.

We are pretty close to the end of the line for iOS 12 updates.

The best you can do is alert Apple to this potential issue.

The only way to get Apple to, DIRECTLY, listen to you is to use their feedback portion of their website.

iPad Feedback

http://www.apple.com/feedback/ipad.html

Cognizant Apple employees read ALL feedback generated from all of the various feedback pages and transfers the data to the proper and responsible Apple teams and personnel , but NO Apple employees will ever respond with any type of direct, individual replies from the feedback you post.

The more users that post product feedback about any product issue, the faster Apple is made aware and starts working on a fix/solution for a quick and future software update.

Also, you may want to phone contact Apple, directly in Cupertino, California, and calmly talk to an Apple customer service employee about this issue via the link below.

Look,

When you lay another object, like a ruler or some other physical object down on tne iPad’s screen to draw straight lines or any other geometrtic shapes by hand, that object laying down on the screen is interfering with the hardware in the iPad's screen that controls how the Apple Pencil or any smart Bluetooth stylus reacts/responds.

You maybe, also, causing interference with the iPad's or the particular app's own palm rejection features by confusing it by placing other objects down on the iPad's screen.

I think this is what is actually happening.

You are confusing the iPad by using the pencil and laying another object down on the screen at the same time.

There are lots sketching/drawing/painting apps that have either a software ruler ( like in the default iOS Notes app sketching feature, to draw straight or diagonal lines or some way to be able to accomplish without using an actual object on the iPad's screen.

I believe this is what is causing all of your Pencil issues.

You DO NOT need to use outside objects on your iPad;s drawing to draw anything that involves straight or circular geometry.

The sketching/drawing/paintng apps should have these abilities built into the app.

No, I did the same test when I bought the device (on the store demo, and on my own when I received it) and it worked perfect. The iPad does not register a book or something else on the screen. I can do the same thing free hand and it will have the jagged edges. I could use an art stick held far above the screen to stabilize my hand, and it will have the jagged edges.

The only reason I tested this is because I was getting annoyed at the lines not being as accurate as they used to be. I am an artist and have very good control over my hand. I expect smooth lines. The accuracy on this ipad is suddenly horrible, to the point that I would never have purchased this ipad with this lack of precision. This used to be perfect.

I can draw a straight line in real life (real pen on real paper) without help. This used to be possible on my ipad. I do not sit around using physical objects to draw on the ipad. I noticed the lack of accuracy during normal use (without a physical ruler or anything else!) The pencil was being used under normal use.

After I noticed the lack of accuracy under normal use, I tested it in different apps (clip studio pro, procreate, OneNote). I then used a physical book as yet another way to test. Again, this can be done on any quality device without interfering with the sensor - it does not register. A book is not capacitive and sure as heck is not going to interfere with a short range Bluetooth connection.

I can do the exact same test on my super old Fujitsu tablet that uses super old Wacom drivers. I can do the same test to a Cintiq Companion, and it’s perfect. I can do the same to my Note phone, and it’s perfect. I USED to be able to do this to the ipad, and it would draw a perfectly straight line.

The book was only used as yet another test of what I was seeing under normal use. You guys are focused on the book, but this was seen under normal circumstances.

I hope that clarifies. Any other ideas?

Thank you for your help. Alas, it did not work. When drawing at a normal speed, i can see the line wiggle back and forth. When drawing very slow, i get jagged lines like the screenshot i showed you. The line is only smooth if i draw very fast. This is SEVERELY disappointing and has made this very expensive device worthless for me :(.

I will look into contacting apple as you suggest.
