Using Apple's Number's application

Is there a way to adjust the width of columns? I just prepared a chart, but the first column needs improvement. Right now, it contains the numbers of files, 1 through 78, but they look strange in their column (There's too much empty space). I would like to be able to narrow the first column much more than the others so that it will be just wide enough to contain the numbers. Is there a way to do this?

Hi Niku,

You could use the same solution for Song Titles as you did for Annette Hanshaw…

Merge the two cells, and centre the text in the single merged cell.

Be aware that merging cells is pretty low on the recommended actions list here, due to the issues raised in sorting and filtering tables that include merged cells. Depending on what you plan to do with this tale, you may never run into those issues.

BTW, my recommendation for the Annette Hanson… line would be to use it as the Table name.

And for Song Titles—put each word in a separate cell. Align Song to the right and Titles to the left.

Regards

Barry

One way is to select the column and then use the Table menu item > Resize Column to Fit Contents.

There is also a "Fit" button in the sidebar -- click Table at the top of the sidebar and then look for Fit to the right of Width near the bottom.

You can also manually drag columns wider or narrower -- hover your cursor on the lines between A, B, C etc near the top until the cursor changes to 2 arrows and then drag.

Okay, FoxFifth and SGill, I'll try your advice later this evening when I can really concentrate on it. It seems to me that the first time I tried, I couldn't find what you mentioned, but given more time and less pressure, I'm sure that I'll be successful. Yes, that's the ticket. I won't try right now. I'll do it in the calm of the evening. Thanks.

Okay, let's wrap this up. I had some unexpected difficulties, but now I'm ready--I think--to finish my table. Here's how it looks now:

Here's what I want to do: (1. )Narrow column one more, if possible, (2. )Show "Song Titles" over columns 3 and 4 (Only once),(3) Show, "Annette Hanshaw performances on Camel Caravan" over all four columns, (4) Widen column 4 as much as possible to avoid multiple lines

Thanks, but I think I'll leave well enough alone. (you scared me with your ominous words about unpleasant issues). Also, I don't like the looks of having the words, "Song Titles" heading two separate columns. I might add that I got my Annette Hanshaw line by using the command, "Add Row Above." Much thanks to all. Thanks to you guys, I'm on my way. I'll be posting my table to Annette Hanshaw site within a few minutes.
