How to remove deleted apple id from ipad

I recently deleted an apple id that was being used on a company ipad. Long story short, now I cannot remove the icloud login from the ipad. I have been able to log into everything else with the new apple id. The error that comes up is, "Verification Failed. You do not have an apple id.

Hello,

The iPad is locked with Activation Lock. There is no way around unlocking Activation Lock without inserting the device’s associated Apple ID. If this is not an option you will have to find the original receipt for the device that clearly shows the serial number. Once you have this document you can have Apple unlock your iPad.

Which is why I doubt the Apple ID is actually deleted. Apple would never simply agree to delete it without assurances that all this has been done and multiple acceptances to delete the ID. As they would expose themselves to liabilities if people start claiming in court apple unilaterally deleted their Apple ID.

I think they may have simply changed the email address. Or change the Apple ID somewhere to a different one, but not on the iPad.

  1. If you get the request to turn off Find my iPad, then you don't have a First Generation iPad. Maybe a First Generation iPad Mini, which is a different device. See here for identification: Identify your iPad model - Apple Support
  2. Apple does not delete Apple IDs over the phone or in any other method except through the Privacy Portal linked to above. So not entirely sure what they actually did, or if they did anything or what they told you they did.

The Privacy Portal is the only way to completely delete an Apple ID. They may have helped you remove it form some other -place, or change the email address for it, but the Apple ID was not deleted sorry.

The deletion process is a long one, that requires you to confirm you wish to delete the Apple IT more than once, and it takes several days to complete, and you get an email once its done, with a code to reverse the deletion for a short period of time. Its not something Apple would ever do over the phone, or via Support.

zmclearan is correct.

Without bring able to get this info and without a receipt for Apple to verify you are the legitimate owner of that iPad, i am afraid that iPad is a dead and useless device to you, now.

I am not sure if you can simply erase and setup a new Apple ID and password, or not on this IPad model.

That iPad is nearly 10 years old, now and coukd not be upgraded any farther than iOS 5.1.1, so I am dubious how useful this iPad would be to you, now.

A lot has changed with iPad in almost 10 years.

Maybe time to purchase a new iPad of your very own, nNow.

Best of Luck to You!

There have been numerous people posting the same issue, and that response I posted was marked by Apple as their recommended response. My understanding is the instructions are laid out to each user when they, deliberately and interactively, request their AppleID be deleted. If they fail to follow the instructions, then yes, there are significant consequences.

The OP would know if they requested the AppleID be deleted, and they would have gotten the cancel code if they did so. They also would have gotten the confirmation message once the AppleID was deleted.

And once an Appleid has been deleted, there is no means to sign out of iCloud any longer, and Apple cannot do anything as they cannot resurrect a deleted AppleID. Deletion is permanent.

And Apple never unilaterally deletes anyone’s AppleID. Users have to sign into their AppleID and formally request it be deleted, with the consequences of doing so being spelled out to them at that time. But as far as I know, Apple does not check that they followed instructions, nor has any means to do so independtly or remotely. Following the instructions is up to each user to do so when they make the deletion request.

This is is at least the fourth or fifth such post about this I’ve seen in the last week or two. And in those cases, yes, the poster did request their AppleID be deleted, and no, they did not follow instructions, and yes, they now have an unusable device.

Exactly.

Deletion is not a simple process of "I contacted Apple and had them delete it". Its a very involved process. By assurances i meant they have followed the process, and confirmed deletion the requested number of times in the Privacy portal which explains this every step of the way.

Those that did follow the steps, and used the Privacy portal to request deletion will have issues if they failed to sign out of the Apple ID from their devices. No argument here.

In this case, the nonchalant "I contacted Apple and they deleted it" is what has me doubting it has really been deleted.

And people may claim they had the Apple ID deleted, when in fact it was simply signed out, or the email was changed, or even the associated email account was cancelled, but the Apple ID still exists in those cases.

Agreed. It was the “Verification Failed. You do not have an Apple ID” that makes me think they really did complete an AppleID deletion request though. Assuming they are using the right primary email for the AppleID that is signed in on the device that is.

It worries me how many posts about deleted AppleIDs are cropping up - makes me think people are not really paying attention when they make those requests. There have been several people posting about how they suddenly changed their minds, but were too late to cancel the process and want to know what should they do now. Which of course is nothing, as their is nothing to do once the deletion is completed.

But then I don’t understand a lot of the issues people have with AppleIDs. I have had one, the same one, for 20 years without issue.

I have a company iPad that is older. I may be wrong about which generation it is. It was set up by an employee that no longer works for the company and I have had issues trying to reset it because I did not have all of the login information for the Apple ID and email he used to set it up. I did go through the correct channel with Apple to get the old account deleted and received an access code from Apple to use until the account was deleted. Apple’s tech support was not very helpful in telling me that the Apple ID would have to be deleted before it could be reset. I don’t know how, but we have access to the iPad and can log into every app with the new Apple ID except iCloud and find my iPad. Since we can get that far and use it for the three months of harvest, that’s what we will do. Thanks for your input.
