Dolby Vision content displaying distorted since tvOS 12.4 update.

Anyone else having their Dolby Vision content in iTunes and Netflix display distorted during certain scenes throughout movies.

Turning Match Content off, fixes it but it also removes the Dolby Vision, and only plays in HDR. Worked fine before the 12.4 update. I even spent the money on new Belkin HDMI cables (Belkin UltraHD 8K HDMI 2.1 Cables), from the apple store which did not help.

I have exactly the same fault. I have also bought the Belkin high speed cable from Apple, no better. During dark scenes it seems to ‘bloom’ the colours and can look like a painting almost. I have read that Dolby made some updates recently to correct some issues with hdmi implementation and that early Dolby enabled TVs may now be unsupported. However I have watched a couple of Netflix series in Dolby in the last few days using the Apple TV and there seems to be no issue at all with Dolby over HDMI to the LG 60UH850 and no issue using the smart TV app either. The problem seems to be isolated to iTunes Dolby Vision movies being streamed .

I spoke with support a week or so ago. They were sympathetic to the issue, but suggested they could not do anything there and then, but would put in a report. It will require a TVOS or a TV update to fix and all they could suggest for the meantime was a work around of using 4KSD and switching off HDR matching for DV movies, which I'd already worked out for myself :)

Hi mate, no all I can say is I’ve narrowed it down to be an iTunes movies Dolby vision codec issue. I’m aware that Dolby made some changes in the last 6 months or so to fix other issues with hdmi sources. Since our TVs have no problem displaying Dolby from the Netflix app running on the Apple TV, this seems to indicate that either the Apple TV app or the iTunes movies are not using the correct Dolby Vision codec. As I wasted half an hour on hold to Apple support and both iTunes support faults I logged were bounced back telling me to call Apple support I have resigned myself to the fact that I’ll have to watch my movies in HDR until Apple consider it worthy of an update. Pretty poor after investing hundreds on 2 Apple TV’s and a ******** of movies in the last 2 years believing it was the best way to build a 4K library.

Remember that if Apple aren't aware of the widespread problem, they will certainly not fix it. The more people that report it to Apple Support, the more likely they are to spend resources fixing it? When I phoned, they had no other records of it having been raised (or at least they couldn't match up similar reports), but he did find these posts (which Apple do not watch)

Useful to know that it isn't specific to LG TVs, and is affecting quite new models as well.

Apple need to sort this out as there is no point in my buying more DV movies from iTunes until it is fixed....which means anything 4K as most of the new 4k movies seem to be in DV? I've noticed that this also affects the DV content on Apple TV+ when I watch the trailors

I have a 2018 TCL 5 Series and get the same issue. I have the Apple Tv 4k connected to an Onkyo Dolby Vision compatible receiver.

I do not get these issues in the built in TCL Apps or Apple TV's Vudu App, I mainly started noticing it when I attempted to watch SEE, and it's happening in "For All Mankind" too

Thought my tv was breaking, glad I'm not the only one getting the issue.

Just chiming in to say that I have this issue on a Philips 55PUS7304 television. I'm using a high-speed 8k Belkin cable in order to eliminate cable speed as a factor. I'm not seeing the distortion on the TV's built in apps for Dolby Vision content, however I'm also not seeing it on the Apple-TV's Netflix and Amazon Prime Video apps - purely Apple Dolby Vision content purchased on iTunes. Perhaps an authoring error on Apple's end leading to incorrect tone mapping on certain TVs?
