About splash, water, and dust resistance of iPhone 7 and later - Apple Support
iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and iPhone XR are resistant to accidental spills from common liquids, such as soda, beer, coffee, tea, and juice. In the event of a spill, rinse the affected area with tap water, then wipe your iPhone off and dry it.
Even though iPhone X is IP67 water resistant, unfortunately that does not mean it is completely waterproof. It seems to have done well in reviewer tests, but some units just have bad seals. If you have AppleCare+, you can get it replaced, but it is not covered under warranty.

I wouldn't expect it to. The iPhone is not waterproof. Water and electronics don't tend to play well together.
Make an appointment at the genius bar of your local Apple Store. They will explain your options.
What do you need? I can assuredly tell you that it won't be covered by the warranty or AppleCare if still in effect.
You might be able to get a service replacement, which would cost less than a new one did, although the price might vary depending on where you're located. If it's gray market or you bought it in another country, then you would need to get the replacement in the country for which the phone was distributed.
If you absolutely need any data on the phone, then that's another story. There are ways to get data off a water damaged iPhone, but for the most part they prevent getting a replacement device from Apple. Such fixes almost never last long term corrosion typically comes back even after all corrosion is removed. The primary reason for any fix of a water damaged iPhone is to extract the data, and hope that the fix lasts long enough to do that.
