Apple Card and Quicken

I didn't see a topic or community set up for Apple Card yet so I'm starting this thread on Apple Pay, somewhat related, just to get the discussion rolling.

I recently accepted the Apple Card invitation and contacted Help/Goldman Sachs to see if they support Direct Connect functionality in Intuit’s Quicken for Mac financial management software (as provided for other "conventional" Goldman Sachs card holders). I was told this Quicken service is not available for Apple Card and, furthermore, there are no provisions for Apple Card customers to login to the Goldman Site and download Apple Card transactions manually, once hard credentials are provided like account number, etc.

Without some kind of financial integration or management functionality, Apple has created yet another "Financial Silo of Excellence” that does not integrate well with existing financial management solutions.

I realize there are security concerns but believe this is very short-sighted and should not have been overlooked during the development phase of the Apple Card. I'm hoping more information and financial management functionality is forthcoming.

A kind user mentioned that there are some interest in the tool ac2ofx and Quicken windows users are not able to import the generated OFX file.

I will make a quick fix by end of day to generate the output as both ofx and qfx files and will make the distribution available at https://bitbucket.org/hleofxquotesteam/dist-applecardstmt/downloads/

For future issue, I can be reached at ac2ofx at gmail dot com OR you can log an issue at https://bitbucket.org/hleofxquotesteam/dist-applecardstmt/issues

While I'm still hopeful for Quicken integration, and while the page for this beta seemed to have very a well explained process, the process reminded me too much of my days with a PalmPilot having to perform multiple translations, syncs and imports just to get something simple done. The time it takes to process a screen shot of transactions is not much less than just typing them in manually, especially if they are already in a QuickFill transaction.

I'll pass for now and stick to my "normal" credit cards that allow automatic transaction downloading.

Upon reflection after the dissapointment that the Apple Card won't work for me without a Quicken connect, I belive the target market for the Apple Card is not the Quicken user but the younger generations who do everything on their phone. And for that market, the Apple card is a major improvement from every other card in terms of tracking and paying for purchases. If the majority of the apple target market adopts the new apple card, there will be no incentive for Apple to pursue a Quicken connection. I suspect they will wait and see if the adopiton and use of the Apple Card lives up to their expectations before they put any time or resources to connect Quicken. Afterall, we all know Apple likes to be in total control of everything they do.

But for me, I have gone back to my other Quicken friendly cash back cards! I will wait and see if Apple decides if the market demographic I am in is worth keeping.

Yep, I move several payments to the Apple Card but now have to reverse them since I have no way to integrate to Quicken for Mac. As so many have mentioned, Apple continues there dominance in the area of non-cooperation. Let's hope their genius figures out how to make this work.

I did the same - using the Apple Card for recurring Apple charges (iTunes purchases, iTunes Match & iCloud).

I just paid the first statement from my bank account. When the payment txn was subsequently downloaded to Quicken, I renamed it to “Apple Services” so Quicken should rename this txn automatically from now on. I just need to remember to use the Apple Card when I get a new phone or Mac for that 3%.

"Designed by Apple, Not a Bank" was Apple's marketing tagline. Moreover, Goldman Sachs is not historically a bank with no branches or consumer banking until the recent troubled experiment called Marcus. Perhaps if Apple HADE cpartnered with an experience consumer bank, this fatal flaw would have not occurred.

Goldman Sachs Tries Banking for the Masses. It’s Been a Struggle.

So far, Goldman has lost $1.3 billion on its consumer bank—and its makeover is challenging the firm’s identity as a titan of high finance

Really - a manual quicken CC account in 2019?

This is a habit with Apple - the Health export is an exploding xml file (QSAccess helps, but is limited, for example no "Exercise Minutes" data.

Despite your protestations to the contrary, this is a simple case of Apple being "closed" instead of "open". Many people, like me, track their finances in third party software, and Apple's decision not to allow an interface to that is a mistake. There are no privacy issues here.

So is it the vast majority of AppleCard users? No. Is it possibly hundreds of thousands of AppleCard users? Yes. And Goldman Sachs should be aware of that and doing something to fix it.

Well said. I encourage everyone - if you correspond with Apple and/or GS on this topic (Feedback or a case), be sure to provide a link to this discussion. There are numerous, well constructed responses here. The only certainty is that if we don’t speak up, it will never change.

Were you able to find out how to get a statement or activity besides manually writing it down from your phone? Does apple think we don't care where the money goes?

To download a statement:

  • Open your phone
  • Tap your Wallet app
  • Tap Apple Card
  • Tap the current card balance
  • Tap a statement of interest to you
  • Tap Download PDF Statement

For current activity:

  • Open your phone
  • Tap your Wallet app
  • Tap Apple Card
  • Scroll Latest Transactions
  • Do a screen shot
  • If you have more than one screen worth, scroll to the next screen and do another screen shot
  • Go to the Photos app and select the screen shot(s)
  • Tap the Share icon
  • Select Print
