If Zoom is crashing your Mac

Hi everyone,

I recently updated my 2019 Macbook Pro to 10.14.6 and since then every time I use my video camera (FaceTime, MS Teams, Zoom, etct) the OS crashes or just the machine hangs.

I even re-installed macOS twice and the issue now continues! My first macOS reinstall I used Time Machine to recover apps and my files - that didn't work. The second macOS reinstall I didn't use Time Machine, my laptop crashed within an hour of using FaceTime or any app that uses the video camera.

I even reset SMC and this didn't help either.

I'm considering bringing my laptop to the Apple Store and have them replace it - the laptop is not even two months old.

Any suggestions?

I contacted Apple support regarding this issue. They told me to reboot in recovery mode and reinstall Mojave (https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201314). Conveniently, the reinstall does not mess with user files or applications.

After reinstalling Mojave I had a couple of 30'-long FaceTime video calls without any problems.

I was not using camera or facetime or messages and MacBook Pro that froze-up was plugged into power.

My time is too valuable to fuss-about with work-arounds and I don't run beta stuff anymore either. Hope Catalina will fix it.

I'll wait for Catalina public release. I don't install beta stuff on anything anymore. It has seriously damaged my machines and crippled my work for months, costing my lots of time and money.

The macOS platform I am using never froze-up as described until installing Mojave 10.14.6

So be it if it is another problem. I also installed Xcode 11 ...

I'm done discussing this ... Already sent the log downloads to App. I am not doing a separate boot disk. Will send the grievances to Cook as usual and wait for Catalina.

I have the same problem - i use Zoom ALL THE TIME for work - i am returning this laptop - i cannot believe this is a problem!!!

You are wasting your time and money trying to return your laptop. Just do the workaround or better yet, make a "Genius" at Apple do it. They can use this forum for reference to their notes.

i think my trouble with crashing while using facetime began right after upgrading to mojave 10.14.6, that said, my question is how to fix this bug? any suggestion, please!
