If Zoom is crashing your Mac

Hi everyone,

I recently updated my 2019 Macbook Pro to 10.14.6 and since then every time I use my video camera (FaceTime, MS Teams, Zoom, etct) the OS crashes or just the machine hangs.

I even re-installed macOS twice and the issue now continues! My first macOS reinstall I used Time Machine to recover apps and my files - that didn't work. The second macOS reinstall I didn't use Time Machine, my laptop crashed within an hour of using FaceTime or any app that uses the video camera.

I even reset SMC and this didn't help either.

I'm considering bringing my laptop to the Apple Store and have them replace it - the laptop is not even two months old.

Any suggestions?

I contacted Apple support regarding this issue. They told me to reboot in recovery mode and reinstall Mojave (https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201314). Conveniently, the reinstall does not mess with user files or applications.

After reinstalling Mojave I had a couple of 30'-long FaceTime video calls without any problems.

Hello

I am having this issue as well. I just purchased the latest macbook pro. I used Slack and Zoom often to share my webcam on client calls. No problems on the 2016 macbook. The new macbook will crash within 2 minutes of sharing webcam on any app. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Zoom and the issue persists. The issue will not trigger until my webcam is shared.

When it crashes, it is the same consistent behavior every time. The computer will freeze and within a few seconds power down and restart.

This is definitely a problem that Apple needs to be looking into. I can assure you it is not related to the third party apps.

Thank you.

I'm having this issue as well since updating to 10.14.6.

I live in Israel and sent the MBP to Apple's official lab which found nothing wrong with my laptop and decided that

probably Skype and Zoom are not "fully compatible" with the OS.

Also happens on another new MBP of a colleague.

Very frustrating to have calls with clients suddenly dropping and having to use my iPhone instead for a business call.

I have the same problem.

I got 2018 15" MacBook Pro with Mojave 10.14.6, and every time I use a video calling app (Skype, FaceTime, GoToMeeting), my laptop ends up crashing. Usually it happens when a video call is longer than an hour, but few times it happened to me after around 30 minutes. I hope that Apple will address it swiftly.

Are all/any of these laptops 15'' with external graphics, by any chance?

In any case, it would be most useful to contact support and let them know. The more data points they have, the more likely it is that they will do something about it... and find the root of the problem. I haven't seen any official response acknowledging the problem in this thread.
