I use Garageband a LOT, and this just started happening!
The space bar can be used to pause and play, but now the little "pin" jumps bact to the very beginning of a track — very annoying. I cannot find a solution in the forums here. Help!

this sounds like you have the Cycle Region button turned on (a yellow bar at the top of the timeline is displayed)
press the 'c' key to turn it off

I use GarageBand to edit interviews and audiobooks, and I find the "cycle" aspect very annoying. I wish there was a way to shut ALL CYCLE FUNCTIONS OFF.

there is only Cycle button, and pressing 'c' toggles it on or off
what other "cycle functions" are you seeing?
In Garageband, the spacebar no longer works to pause and play
