Hi baplaw,

Thanks for posting in the Apple Support Communities. I see you're receiving an error message when you open iCloud for Windows.

Typically, you can resolve an issue like this by uninstalling and then reinstalling iCloud for Windows: Set up and use iCloud for Windows

"Turn off or uninstall iCloud for Windows

If you turn off a service in iCloud for Windows, your information won't automatically stay up to date in iCloud, and you won't see updates made on your other devices. Follow these steps to turn off a service or iCloud:

  • To turn off a service on your PC, Open iCloud for Windows, then select or deselect that service. To save your changes, click Apply.
  • To turn off iCloud for Windows, open iCloud for Windows, then sign out.

If you want to uninstall iCloud for Windows, remember to make a copy of your iCloud data and save it on your PC. Then sign out of iCloud for Windows on your PC, and follow these steps:

Windows 8 or later:

  1. Go to the Start screen, right-click in the bottom-left corner or click, then select Control Panel.
  2. Click Uninstall a Program.
  3. Click iCloud > Uninstall.
  4. When asked to confirm, select Yes.

Windows 7:

  1. Choose Start menu > Control Panel.
  2. Click Programs > Program and Features.
  3. Select iCloud > Uninstall.
  4. Click OK to continue."

Be sure to double-check that Windows is fully updated. Then, check out the "Set up iCloud for Windows" section of the link above to reinstall iCloud for Windows, and test it out.

Have a great day.

Let me tell you my problem has been solved.! Thank you for your suggestions. However, I already had tried those steps to no avail. For the sake of some others having similar installation problems (MAPI 0x80040604) what I did was go to "Profiles". In my opened Outlook, I went to "File - Account Settings - Manage Profiles - Data Files". It was there I saw that the iCloud Data File was still there even though I had done what appeared to be a complete uninstall. So, I deleted that particular iCloud Data File. My iCloud data was already backed up on my iphone so I would not lose any iCloud information, email, calendar, etc., I wanted to keep for my PC. The result was the only data files left were from my two email addresses which I certainly kept as is. I also made sure the @me.com email account was deleted, as well. Once anything associated with the previous install of iCloud was TOTALLY eliminated, then I backed out completely from Outlook. I then shut my machine completely down. After restart, just to make sure, I went through the above steps again to ensure that iCloud had not reinvented the iCloud Data File without my knowledge, not that it would, but just to make me feel better. Everything looked good. Then I went to the download iCloud site on Apple's page, downloaded it, went through the installation steps without any problems at all. Problem solved for me. A rather easy fix for my machine.
