How to disable Wi-Fi base station AND router functions of a Time Capsule

You connect the new router to the Time Capsule's WAN port: you only need to enable Bridge Mode if you have anything connected to its output ports - if you don't it doesn't matter: it doesn't affect things backwards, so to speak. If you do have things connected, then Bridge Mode means that the IP numbers handed out by the router are passed straight through the Time Capsule to any connected devices - in effect it becomes a network switch.

To disable the routing functions of the Time Capsule, use the AirPort Utility, as follows:

1. Run the AirPort Utility, select the Time Capsule, and then, select Edit.
2. Select the Network tab.
3. Change "Router Mode" to: Off (Bridge Mode).
4. Select Update and allow the TC to restart.

Open AirPort Utility

Click on the picture of the Time Capsule

Click the Wireless tab at the top of the window

Change the setting for Network Mode from "Create a wireless network" to "Off"

Click Update to save the new settings

When in bridge mode, the WAN and LAN ports on the Time Capsule are identical. However, to maintain consistency, I suggest that you use the WAN port. With both routing and wireless functions disabled, you basically have an Ethernet switch with a built-in hard drive.
