issues with opening Word

I use word to write my uni assignments and when I've gone to open word the documents I was last working on keep reopening again and again completely filling the screen and I have to go to another screen before being able to force quit word and no matter what other documents I try to open the same few I was last working on are the only ones to open again and again and I'm not sure what to do

Start with these:

  1. Check that the the System Preferences : General : [√] Close windows when quitting an app is selected.
  2. On the menu, verify that each of Restart, Shutdown, and Logout menu items do not have the following selected:
    1. [ ] Reopen windows when logging back in.

Both of these will stop the flurry of prior windows all over your screen. You can also try holding the shift key while launching Word following the need to force quit it. See if that changes it behavior too.
