Duplicate apple tv user accounts: App Store and Icloud

All of a sudden my AppleTv is showing 2 user accounts for me. It looks like it’s generated one user account for my App Store ID and one for my ICloud ID. This is annoying because they are both connected to the one user, not separate users. Anyone have any ideas if this can be changed??

If you're seeing duplicate users on your Apple TV, perform the following to remove the dupe.


In the Home app:


  • Tap the Home icon (upper left, on the Home tab)
  • In the settings dialog, tap you user instance (under the People section)
  • Tap Show Me on Apple TV
  • Tap to disable the Apple TV(s) you don't want to show your (additional) user on


After that, you should only see one profile instance on your Apple TV.

tvOS will list the account for the iTunes & App Store separately from the account for iCloud, but it can be (and is usually recommended to be) the same account (Apple ID) for both listings.

If different Apple ID accounts are used on your device for these two services, then you can sign out for the one that you don’t want to use, and sign in again with the intended account.

If different Apple ID accounts are used on your device, then someone will have done so deliberately. Not all of a sudden, and not generated.

No luck.


Turned off the beta on both Apple TVs.

Updated to release tvOS version.

Turned off “Show Me On Apple TV” in Home app.


Still two duplicate users. Flipping the “Show Me” switch multiple times on multiple devices neither created a 3rd account nor removed the 2nd. I’m just stuck with a duplicate that will not get removed. Seems like I’m going to have to wipe both Apple TVs unless someone else can come up with a fix that worked for them.

Interesting. I've turned off beta. I've reset the AppleTV and still have 2 duplicate users. Interestingly though, when I go to the home app on my iPhone or iPad, only one user is shown (with both iCloud and iTunes accounts), and I can't do anything with that user - that is, I cannot delete them or edit them. So,,, duplicate users on the Apple TV but one user in the home app of my iPhone/ipad.
