Text Messaging - iPhone Integration with Ford Sync

It is unfortunate that a technology leader such as the iPhone is missing a significant feature that RIM and Android have, and likely losing market share accordingly.

Through the "Message Access Profile" bluetooth profile, Ford Sync cars (1+ million sold to date) have the ability to read out your text messages via bluetooth, ensuring that the driver isn't distracted. With so many laws banning driver distractions (hand-free requirements, no text messaging initatives), this is a significant safety issue for today's iPhone owners.

I have seen many posts for years from users wishing that Apple would get on board with this technology, but so far it hasn't been raised as a viable option to implement.

Please reply to this thread if you are one of the 1+ million Ford Sync owners who also own an iPhone and wish this feature was implemented. I luckliy own both a BlackBerry and an iPhone, but not all people do.

hmmm, I thought someone had posted on this list a few months ago that IOS 6 would include the bluetooth MAP protocol. having loaded 6, it does not seem to be the case.

I believe several have concluded that the lack of MAP protocol is the source of problems for ford, toyota, mercedes, and other vehicles in integration limitations of blue tooth to iphones.

Anyone know the latest on this issue?

Hello, I upgraded my iPhone 4S to iOS 6 and repaired it with my Microsoft Sync but I am still unable to hear my text alerts and text messages through the Sync system. When I go through the Sync settings I have MAP turned on but when I get to Text Messages, I get a message saying Not Supported. It would be nice to hear the actual text message but I mostly just care about hearing the text message tone.

So far, with the iOS6 upgrade, the "popup for messages" option in my toyota V is at least no longer dimmed. It also claims now to allow me to send sms, set up a template etc. However, nothing happens! It does not receive sms nor send sms. I have re-paired the phone and worked it through the ubs jack, still nothing.

Anyone else have any luck? Any suggestions? Does it work now on Fords?

(To ward off those who hate popups in autos, I concur - except that I am an emergency responder who is alerted by sms when not on station. So, seeing a pop up indicating whether the alert is for fire, police, or medical is very important to me. It saves me from searching my pockets for the phone, fumbling with the icons, maybe pulling over, maybe not, etc etc. I'd be much safer to everyone with a pop-up (or an android!!))

I was the one that posted the next ios update would have MAP capabilities. It's odd my post is no longer there and for the life of me I can't remember where I read that. I have not tried resyncing my phone with my Honda since ios6 came out. Oddly it did quit playing my tunes via the bluetooth connection but the phone connection still works. This has happened in the past so I'm not optimistic I'll have any new features when I get it working again from everyone's comments. If I find the original article I read about ios6 I'll post it.
