When using my iPad, music begins to play spontaneously. It sounds like .midi computer music. I used SoundHound to try to identify it with no success. I closed all apps and it continues to play. I checked iTunes and it is not playing from there. I would like to identify the source so I can control or eliminate it.

I finally found the source of this problem. It lies in the Apple app Swift Playgrounds. The music the app plays matches what I heard. Others have also noted the app starting on its own in the app reviews.

Did you happen to use this app called GarageBand app, maybe it’s the source that you are trying to find. Perhaps you can perform a check
on it.
Hopefully, this is the source which you are looking high and low for, if it isn’t, then perhaps you backup your iPhone/iPad, reset it to its factory settings and restore your iPhone/iPad from the backup (the suggestions in my previous post)

Maybe you can check whether you opened the radio feature in your Music app or any YouTube videos or Podcasts. If you are having spontaneous music from Podcasts, just switch the continuous playback OFF (pls refer to the attached photo)

Yes, I know he mentioned it. But I don't know if he used the App Switcher. Hence the suggestion, which may well have been redundant, but worth mentioning anyway.
The OP could also be connected via Bluetooth to something.
Double tap your home button to bring up the app switcher. This shows all the apps, which could be on in the background. Swipe them up to fully close them, then tap your home button once to go back to your home screen again.
Could your iPad be connected to a Bluetooth device which is playing music?

You can tap on your folder (pls refer to attached photo) to check if there’s any songs in it, if you have no use for the songs then perhaps you can delete them away then check if spontaneous music still occurs.

None of the apps you list were open when the music began playing. I turned the “Continuous Playback” switch off as you suggested. This spontaneous music has occurred about 5 times and I will need to start documenting open apps when it occurs in hope of finding source. What is unusual is closing apps does not stop the music. The only way I can stop the music is by turning iPad off. The music is not from my iTunes library either. Thank you for the suggestion.
Yes, this might resolve the issue. For now, I am curious about the cause. More recently I have added some Widgets to my iPad, one from Photopills, another from IFTTT. Could a Widget run in background and play music?

Interesting mystery you've got going on. For the iPad to play music, it has to be coming from a source, so it will be interesting to see if you find it.
This sounded like a good lead. I don't use Garage Band but opened the app on day one of iPad. I looked at Run in Background and it was already checked off. No music stored in my Garage Band iCloud folder. The music sounds like something produced on Garage Band but nothing is store on the device or cloud.
I do not have any songs in these folders. I have never heard this music before prior to these plays. It happened again today at 845pm which makes me suspicious it is an alarm within an app. Unfortunately the app isn’t notifying with text to tell me about the alarm. I turned iPad off again to stop music. I am waiting until tomorrow night to confirm the 845pm trigger. There must be an easy explanation but heck if I know it now.

This is exactly what I did to close the apps.
Bluetooth was on but My Devices list show devices that tend to play music, not transmit. My auto might be an exception but it was off and in the garage.
