Emergency bypass for text tones not working when do not disturb is turned on and iphone is locked. I've set Emergency Bypass button in the contact list for the persons I wish to allow bypassing Do Not Disturb, but when the phone is locked or asleep, I get no text tone.

I believe there is a bug in apple's code here. Apple's description of the function states that enabling Emergency Bypass " ... allows sounds and vibrations from this person even whe Do Not Disturb is on". I think there are points to be made about whether or not this is a good design for such a function, but it is clear to me that the function as designed and intended by Apple is not working properly.
I had hoped that someone could point me to exceptions or further wrinkles in setting up this function, but I see none, so far.
In case anyone is interested my iPhone is at the latest available release version and level: 12.4.1. In my experience, this 'bug' as I am calling it has existed for several months. It has irked me enough that I thought it would bear examining. I need to get calls from certain persons, no matter what the state of my DND setting is.

It works just fine for me. Just to be clear, the settings for calls (ringtone) and messages (text tone) are separate. Changing one does not change the other.
If you've set them correctly and it's not working, reboot the phone and check again.

Emergency bypass for texts works just fine for me.
