Why does my mac beep at random intervals?

My mac beeps at random intervals all day long. It might be telling me there's an email coming in, or a text message. Possibly some of the emails are spams that do not appear in the mailbox, (yet still trigger the beep).

I need help to arrange my beep notifications to be USEFUL but can't find the information.

Another forum thread is marked "solved" but there is no on-topic information.

A member Klaus1 posted off-topic information that is interesting but does not solve this topic.

Is there anyone who can help me actually solve this problem? Perhaps ___on THE FORUM___ so other people can make their OSX work too?

OK here's where it is for the Mail (and others).

If this reduces the beeps then it was from the mail program.

If it would beep me ONLY for emails from "my contacts",

or valid emails,

NOT beeping for SPAM & Junk....

But for now I'll take mail silence.

OK I unchecked the "Play Sound for notifications" and the macbook still beeps when I get a "notification banner".

at upper Right.

It also beeps with the lid closed.

I opened System Preferences to verify it was unchecked (saved) ,,,,,, and the box is "unchecked".

very simple, go to system preferences > notifications and choose the options you like. Or turn it all off.
