Cannot receive emails in Apple Mail on my iPad Pro

All was well until today. Now I’m told that Apple Mail cannot connect to BT (my ISP in the UK)

It’s the same on my wife’s iPad too, so I’m wondering if the problem is with Apple.

Ideas welcome.

Just for the record the BT Internet mail problem was caused by a problem with Yahoo Mail as published in several newspapers - see below. BT Internet Mail and certain other eMail providers are served by Yahoo Mail. Apple Mail may not be perfect but it was blameless here.

Try the new hard reset procedure for the new 2018 iPad Pro models

Press and Release the Volume Up button.

Then, immediately Press and Release the Volume Down button.

Then, Press and Hold the Power Button at the top.

You will see the Slide to Power off button, but keep on holding down the Power Button until you see the Apple logo, then

let it go.

Once you have performed all the steps, wait for a few seconds and your 2018 iPad Pro will boot up completely to

the iPad Pro’s Lock screen.

Good Luck!

I’m currently on board my narrowboat so unable to use BT WiFi - I think that may be part of the problem. I’m using my iPhone as a ‘Hot-Spot’ connecting to the Internet via the UK 3/4G telephone network.

I did reset network settings as you suggested, but sadly no change.

I have contacted BT and they advised me to remove my account, restart my iPad and then install a fresh account. That didn’t work either! I’ll try that again now that I’ve followed your advice.

Thank you, MichelPM

I have now done as you suggested. Sadly, no change.

However, using Apple Mail I can send a test message to myself. It shows as having been sent - but it doesn’t arrive in the Apple Mail Inbox. It does, though, arrive in my BT webmail Inbox!

Really strange. I suspect I’m going to have to wait to connect to proper WiFi.

UPDATE!

I turned my iPhone (Hotspot) completely off overnight - my iPad was left just on standby as it were.

This morning I switched on my iPhone and selected use as a Personal Hotspot. I then went to Mail on my iPad and, can you believe this, ALL of my messages are back again! I am able to send and receive messages just as normal too.

My strong suspicion is that Apple Mail had a ‘glitch’ - but I suppose I’ll never know for sure.

Very many thank to everyone who tried to help me.

Much appreciated.

Lots of email providers get fussy when you try to access your mail in what their security protocols see as an unexpected way. There was a U.S. provider that used to be notorious for this. You could send but not receive email on mobile devices without jumping through non-obvious hoops. Most of them have gotten better as such a huge percentage of people now use mobile devices.

Very jealous of the narrowboat!
