my iphone x is on the lock screen verifying an update and is stuck

how can i turn my phone off to fix the problem when i cant interact with it? The phone itself is stuck on the lock screen and it says verifying update. I cant turn y phone off because i have to swipe the power off feature and i cant interact with it. Please help.
