iPod touch storage device vs iTunes

My thanks to Fiend for help on a related issue.

My iPod is to capacity under the summary pane in iTunes, so I searched how to free up space. It’s a 128GB iPod touch, but System is at 14.43 GB and Other at 9.93 GB.

I did a back up to the computer, and then my iPod summary in iTunes said Music 105 GB and 2.86 GB free space. But, when I tried to transfer 304 MB, 38 songs, under Music on iTunes, it says they are there, but on the device itself only one track made it across.

The storage data is also different on the device listing 112 GB in audio and no free space. Why the difference?
