Audiobook as gift from iTunes U.K. store fail

I was gifted an audiobook from a friend and received the email with the redeem code and instructions. However, as his store is UK and mine is US- it appears that the download is not possible. Any suggestion on how I can redeem the audiobook without falsely changing my US store to a UK store?

apple books gift uk to us how do I redeem a gift book from the UK to the US ? App keeeps saying code is only good in UK. I am in US.

No way to do so.

Gifts are only valid if you are both in the same region.

Well that’s very odd. So friends in different countries can not send gifts?

Do you you have any suggestions of how an audiobook can be gifted alternatively?

Actually, I have no idea, sorry, except using another service with audiobooks.
