iCloud storage showing up much larger than it really is

On the iCloud settings page, the storage is correct - I have a 50 gb plan with some 4 gb photos on there.

On the iPhone storage though, iCloud accounts for a 57 gb of storage - but on the graph, I am only using 49 gb of storage altogether?

Why is this happening and what can I do about it?

Hey, tangyzingy.

I see that there's a large amount of iCloud Drive files showing in the storage of your iPhone. The problem is, there isn't any iCloud Drive storage being used in iCloud, and I'm glad to help.

Use the Files app on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch -- Your iPhone storage is showing that your iCloud Drive files are located on your phone. Open the Files application and see if there's a cloud symbol on your documents and files. If there isn't, they're located on your phone. Check Settings > [your name] > iCloud and see if iCloud Drive is turned on.

What is iCloud Drive? -- You can also check to see which files and documents are located in iCloud Drive. You can also go to the Settings in iCloud.com to check the storage there as well.

Let me know how that goes, and take care!
