delete old .mac account and transfer content?

I have an old login to apple as a .mac account. I no longer use that and it hasn't been active since 2011. I now have a gmail account login. I can not access songs that i have PAID FOR previously through my old account. How can I merge purchases from my old account to my new account?

Or better yet, how can I delete this old account?

I'm never ever ever going to buy music from apple again. I should have access to ALL content I have purchased, without hassle.

Thanks.

Purchase history cannot be transferred from one Apple ID to another. Your old email address and password combination should remain valid to sign into your Apple ID and access the past purchases. Try https://iforgot.apple.com to regain access to the account if you've forgotten the password. Accessing past purchases from one account will limit your access to another for 90 days. See Authorization vs. association - Apple Community for details.
