Playlist Art on iPhone after IOS 13

Hello,

Is anyone else encountering the issue of playlist art not showing the correct album art on the iPhone after updating to IOS 13? Yesterday, I updated my old iPhone X to the new IOS and it messed up the album art on my playlists on my iPhone. I just purchased the iPhone 11 Pro today and I was hoping would the issue wouldn’t be there but it still persists. In fact, it seems to randomly select a covert art for a playlist each time I open the music app. However, when I click on the actually playlist the correct album art is there. I know this is minor issue for some, but it is annoying the crap out of me right now lol.

I’m old school in that I manage all of my music via iTunes on windows and I don’t use the cloud at all. I just prefer to do it this way because I have a ton of music that I imported years ago via CD from back in my high school days. Anyone encountering this issue currently? I’ve tried re-syncing all of the music on my phone several times, uninstalling iTunes on my pc and reinstalling it, and cleaning the cache. I’ve had this happen in the past but can’t remember what I did to fix it. The album art is correct on my pc, and correct once I select a playlist on my phone. It’s just wrong when I’m looking at all of my playlists on my phone.

Best,

iPhone X

My playlist art, once I moved to iOS13.1 and later to 13.2 were scrambled and incorrect. I finally solved this by adding the artwork that I wanted for the playlist in iTunes and then re-syncing the phone.

Step-by-step

1) In iTunes, choose Music to see all your playlists on the left side.

2) Select the playlist that has the wrong cover on your phone so that the playlist and songs appear in the right pane.

3) Double-click the album art on the top of that list (yes it works) and a popup window will allow you to select an image. Just select an image that you want. I used a 500x500 pixel jpg or png image that I copied from one of the songs in the playlist.

4) Do this for all the playlists that you have.

5) Sync your phone

This worked for me - after trying unsuccessfully to solve by

1) changing all the artwork on each song,

2) deleting all music and re-synching,

3) deleting the Album Art cache and rebuilding.

I'm uncomfortable with upgrading to Catalina, too! I hate that they're doing away with iTunes the way it was. I watched a video on YouTube where a person was demonstrating using iTunes Match to get the music on the device, and there were a lot of issues with some of the files (maybe files that were ripped from a CD or came from another source). Some of them were not syncing to the device anymore, and it appeared there was no way to fix it. Incorrect album art would be the least of my worries at that point! I've spent so much time compiling and organizing my library that it pains me to think that all my music won't sync correctly. It feels like the goal here is to have everyone to get their music directly from Apple and nowhere else. I'm really frustrated and not sure what to do.

I actually agree with all of you about updating to Catalina. if they want you to use the Apple Music app so bad, make it available to Mojave users... updating to Catalina is not a minor upgrade. And, So I don’t get censored I will say that Apple and I have had our disagreements over the years. I wouldn’t even be using apple stuff to the extent that I do (if at all.... maybe an iPod at best), but I do pro audio stuff and I have been there and done that in a Windows environment.... it’s bad, lol.... so, unfortunately, I am stuck with Apple. Only like one plugin that I own and logic is supported on Catalina.... the computer I updated, that I sync my iOS devices to, I don’t do music production on.... infancy, all I use are Apple products, office, and an application that allows me to make video files from DVDs to put on my Plex server. however all of my other computers have Mojave, and since so little software I have is supported on it yet, I will not be updating for quite some time. I understand that since Catalina is such a big update, that they don’t want to put Apple Music on Mojave, but at the same time, they should have not left is in the dark and made us figure all this out on our own, so a big thank you to Apple for that!!!! And as far as the syncing via iCloud, I kind of figured that would be riddled with bugs, so I am glad I found the way of syncing old school!!!! Anyone on Windows, please let me know how it works out with you guys!!!!

Good to know they are aware and hopefully fixing the issue. Album view is subpar. If you have a mixed playlist (Workout Mix or Best of the 70s) each song / artist from that playlist would have an album cover. And if you have multiple mixed playlists the album view is sort of pointless with all these one song album covers. The playlist view is crucial.

You don't think apple will be ashamed, do you? The problem is that there is no concurrence on the planet for them.

The only thing is to wait and in the meantime to depose plaints where one can.

For me it is clear. I will not move to the new system until it will be VERY stable.

I had enough with this small update to iOS 13, imagine Catalina ...

And I will not buy ANY hardware that forces me to change the system.

Only for the climate a system change would do good.

I like many here have a HUGE music library over 60 Gb. It started back with an old iPod mechanical wheel and now on my iPhone 7. Some of it was from purchased iTunes and others from legit online mp3 purchases but most of it was from over 600 ripped CD’s.

I’ve been an avid Apple owner for 16 years. Been through some ups and downs. I must say though, over the last 4-5 years things have been much more volatile and unreliable than the prior decade (I’ll let the read speculate on the cause).

I upgraded to IOS13 very early and then applied the 13.1 patch and most recently the 13.1.3 patch. NONE OF THESE have modified or fixed the iTunes music play/display on my iPhone.

I almost exclusively use my iPhone (previously was iPod) for my audio listening pleasure. I’m often in places where wifi or internet is very limited so online streaming ISN’T an option.

Since ios13, my music on my iPhone plays in some random order and NOT the track order of the CD. I have gone into iTunes on my mac and changed the order (was set to ‘Playlist’ in the newest iTunes and I have no idea what that means). Now on iTunes on my Mac things are somewhat correct although the change is TEDIOUS at best as one has to go into each and every playlist and modified the sort order, add/remove sort columns and then click on the correct sort.

I did that and resync’d to my iPhone and iPad but both continue to play the songs in some random order. This is MOST unappealing for the continuous CD’s that I have of mixed tracks. They now play is random order so the mix is all screwed up. And, yes I have set these to complication types in iTunes.

How is the world do software developers put this trash out as an official release?

It is unfathomable that Apple is doing so poorly with software releases recently. I personally believe this is related to the decision to “discontinue iTunes” to force us to pay for Apple Music service. BTW - Apple has even unable to tell me what will happen with my music library is I start to use Apple Music. I have rare CDs I have ripped that are in my library. And I have specific versions of albums and songs that I believe sound better then more recent remasters. I don’t want Apple mucking with my music library. FIND ME SOMEONE WHO KNOWS WHAT THE SOFTWARE WILL DO!!!!!

You could be right about the whole iTune> Apple Music but I'm assuming they will realize they can only pull so much s&@t before people will just give up on Apple. I feel like they've done this before ... took away Camera Roll on one upgrade and incurred such wrath it was back in a week or two. Bern an Apple person forever but getting over it!

I agree with you. I have hi res files of My music and do not want Apple Music to replace them with mp3 files. I have bought all my musics from Apple or ripped them from CDs. >17,000 tracks. Good news is that if they do begins to replace my files, I have them backed up and I will move away from Apple completely. That’s 5 iPhones, 3 iPads, 4 computers. iTunes if the only reason I have stayed with Apple and if they change, I no longer need them and will make the change. My brother keeps nagging me to move to Samsung Android. Maybe he’s right and is time.
