iPhone 11 Pro Max Camera issues

So my iPhone 11 Pro Max camera has an issue straight out of the box. The camera is blurry. It is so bad that my iPhone 6 could take better photos. Using the telephoto lense makes it even worse. It looks like you're watching standard cable. It's fuzzy. The ultrawide does the same thing. Leaving it at 1x helps but it still doesn't like right. Tapping to focus doesn't help. The photos my phone is taking are definitely not what I saw on the keynote. It looks terrible. Also, the interface is just bad. It's hard to use. Also, night mode reveals just how bad the camera is. For a Pro iPhone, I don't believe this deserves "Pro" in it's name. Or it's hefty price.

Is this on every image? If so, is there anything on the lenses?


As to the secondary issue, this may not be an option for you, but if you have room on a credit card for them to place a hold for the amount of the phone they have an option where they will send you a replacement phone and a box to ship yours back to them. The hold will stay on your card until they receive your phone back. I have done this several times because I do not want to be without my phone while waiting for repairs either. They do not charge your card unless they do not receive your phone. I believe it is called an expedited repair and you have to ask for it.

Personally, I don't this is a very valid comparison given neither camera was used as designed, yet both are better than I would have expected.


If you are concerned about the speck of dust, schedule an appointment at your Apple Store Genius bar and if they see what you're seeing, they'll likely replace the phone. So back it up before you go.

In addition, the ultrawide does not have 100% focus pixels. Would it be nice if each lens was on par with the others? Of course it would be nice. However, this has never been the case with ANY iPhone. This started with the first plus phones

I too am having iPhone 11 Pro Max camera problems with blurry focus. In my case the focus wont lock and you can feel the phone vibrating as the lens tries to focus lock but can't.


At the Apple store this week they replaced my "camera unit" and the problem resolved for three days then has begun again. I'm updating to iOS 13.3.1 to see if this remedies the problem. If not I'll be back at the Apple Store tomorrow. It seems like a software to me...

And there's not one thing anyone on this forum can do to help you. If you are unhappy with your iPhone take it to your Apple Store Genius Bar. Complaining here is pointless. Apple isn't here, isn't reading these posts and won't respond to you at all. Either get Apple to diagnose your phone and possibly replace it or get something that you'll find more acceptable for your needs.


What do you think anyone here can do for you?

I've never said there is no issue. I've said that if someone thinks their phone has an issue, it should be taken to Apple.


Many of the poor photos posted here are users not understanding the different cameras and taking poor photos. But that doesn't mean all are.


I don't have any issues with either of our new phones. If you do, take it to Apple. We can't help you here.

Actually, telling a user to sell a device they are clearly unhappy with is perhaps the best solution to the problem. If you're unhappy that your new vehicle doesn't accelerate from 0-60 in under five seconds, you can continue to take it to the dealer's service garage, or you can purchase a vehicle that does. That's what we're talking about here.


I've advised people if they think they have a defective product, make a Genius Bar appointment and take it in.


Many have done that, and virtually all have reported their replacement has the exact same issue, indicating that it is, by all indications, expected behavior for the device.


I have not belittled anyone or told them their issue is imaginary; rather I've done all I can to explain that what they are seeing seems to be by all indications normal lens flare for a camera of this resolution with a lens of this size (as described by many photography sites and blogs that know lens flare inside and out) and if it really bothers them, the answer is to purchase something else.


That's how products compete in the marketplace: if you're unsatisfied with a product you cut your losses and find one that will do what you need/want it to.

I don’t understand the defensive approach some of you are taking when folks come here I’m with an issue, specifically this one. It’s like you’re insulted that people may have faulty phones. Like how dare they even suggest it. You, in your infinite wisdom. These phones are actually made for everyday humans to ya know, not just more advanced users. I’m not a professional photographer, however I am a seasoned Design Director and know my way around enough to spot an issue, I know my way around enough to take beautiful shots... and edit them. I can I and have I taken great shots with my iPhone 11 Pro, I’m not saying it’s incapable. The photos Philly posted wouldn’t result in the issue people are having, it’s how the phones are now mirroring direct light sources. I’ve been experiencing vastly different results with my 11 pro than I ever have with any other iPhone... it’s been frustrating to say the least. Like I said, I’m on my 3rd 11 pro, my first one, I was only experiencing normal amounts of ghosting but the flares were so incredibly bad (3 or repeated in every photo with any light at all (Apple said my lenses were uneven), my next two have been ridiculous with how extreme the ghosting is, completely ruining compositions and night photography is next to impossible, I’ve never experienced anything like this with my 5s, my 6s, my 7s, or my X. This is now my 3rd phone. It’s incredibly likely Apple my have a real problem with a number of their phones that people are experiencing, to deny that customers may be experiencing problems is just irresponsible.

First, is it the 2x camera or the ultra-wide camera that you are having issues with? They are on completely opposite ends of the spectrum. The ultra-wide camera is the 0.5x camera.


Second, you keep talking about the poor results from the ultra-wide camera and how you used to get so much better results on your iPhone 7. Your iPhone 7 did not have an ultra-wide camera. So why do you think comparing photos taken by this brand new ultra-wide camera that does not have the capabilities of the camera on your iPhone 7 is valid? The camera on your iPhone 7 is a better camera than the ultra-wide camera on your iPhone 11. The camera on your iPhone 7 IS NOT a better camera than the wide angle camera on your iPhone 11.


Third, yes that is lens flare in your photo of the Pisa tower. This is not the fault of the camera. If you had simply moved a little or turned the camera so that the giant bright light was not in the frame, you would probably have been able to remove the flare.


I actually saw an example of this today so I snapped both photos so that I could share them in this thread. These two photos are taken of the exact same area. I just moved slightly to remove the flare. Just to be clear, I am not sharing these as a demonstration of awesome photos. I actually snapped these just to use for this example because I thought it would be instructive to show that the appearance of lens flare can be mitigated by how we frame our subjects.

so what I noticed is that you can go to your settings>camera>Record video and move it to 4K 60fps it highest the quality but only on video i don’t know why not the regular camera but it looks better or in the camera settings where you found the record video below it it has record slo mo and you can higher that quality too but honesty what I do is when I take a picture take a video for 2seconds and screenshot it and it looks good too

I've seen a lot of frustration with both sides of the story. People who have a good 11 pro love it, and it seems to me that there are good devices out there with excellent image quality and don't get the hate by people like me who don't have a good piece of hw. Others who don't have a good piece of HW are also getting mad on the ones with a good piece of hardware because you know we paid up to 1350 euros for a device that isn't what we are expecting from this brand (quality wise). TBH I think It's important to conclude that the people who are saying they have the problem don't wan't to buy another device because they bought it in the first place why would they buy an android if they bought this device? So buying something else isn't the solution here. It's the same for me always had Iphone's until my previous samsung s8 know I bought back an 11 pro because, heck I loved ios more than android. So I kindly ask to keep this comments from this thread and try to help eachother instead of poking each other with a stick. It's better for this thread and wel let's say the frustration that already persists with the owners of a phone with bad cameras.


I've returned mine and will keep doing this until I get a good one :). And if the odds are not in my favor, I will probably use it untill the twelve and take my Sony A6000 with me for good quality pictures :).


If you expect better quality because you paid more, you will underestimate how many times you will get dissappointed by the product. And this is something I've learned the hard way.


Hope this message gets this thread back on track, and fingers crossed there's gonne be some communication from Apple or an solution.

The zoom on the iPhone is a digital zoom; that means you are not zooming in per se, you are taking smaller and smaller snapshots of the digital image and blowing them up. Digital zoom is pretty universally horrible on all phones.


The 11 Pro Max offers a 2x optical telephoto lens, just like you'd find on a good camera, that helps you get closer with excellent quality.
