New Mohave doesn't read non-Apple external media drive

It worked last week, but this week my MacBook Air doesn't read any CDs I insert into the drive. Would it recognize the CDs if I were using an Apple product? I guess you pays your money, you takes your chances.

Last week I copied 8 CDs to iTunes and then moved them over to my phone. Did they not like that? This week, iTunes doesn't read the CDs I copied last week. iTunes sees the disc but won't eject it. Disk Utility doesn't read it, but will eject it.
