iOS 13, Siri making calls on speaker phone by default.

Since updating to iOS 13, I have noticed that when ever I ask Siri to make a phone call for me, the call is placed using speaker phone every time by default. I am not asking to put the call on speaker and I have tried restarting my phone with no luck. Every time I say something like, “Hey Siri, call Jim.” The call is placed and put on speaker phone. I then have to tap to turn speak off, and then continue the call.

I hope this is a bug that Apple is aware of and fixing soon.

Is anyone else experiencing the same issue?

This is on iPhone XS, iOS 13.0

I'm repeating the workaround fix, I posted below.

  1. Go to Assessibility > Touch > Call Audio Routing

There are 3 default choices: "Automatic", "Bluetooth Headset" or "Speaker"

2. Choose "Bluetooth Headset". NOT the default "automatic" - which is broken in iOS13.1

NOTE: I do not use much less own a Bluetooth headset. But it mostly fixes the problem.

If it's like my iPhone 11 Pro, it will be on "automatic" by default - which always got to speaker when using Siri to make a call. But I just tested it using "Bluetooth Headset"., and when I asked Siri to call a number, she responded that she is calling that number using the speaker. But the speaker was OFF. Let that sink in - this a very broken iOS feature.

So, it goes to speaker when it is set to the default "automatic", and doesn't when it is changed to "Bluetooth headset".

EXACTLY, and I am so aggravated by this! My iPhone XS has been doing this every since Saturday October 5, 2019 when my iPhone automatically updated to iOS 13.1.2. I immediately contacted Apple and they informed me that they are aware of this, and they’re working on it. He told me hopefully it should be fixed on the next update. He didn’t know when that would be.

I still can't keep the iPhone 11Pro connected to the car's BT. Calls hang up BT 20 seconds later. I call back and nothing changes. Sometimes the car's multimedia system restarts, which had never happened before. Since I had confidence in Apple, I upgraded the old iPhone 5 SE to iOS 13.1.2 and got exactly the same issues as the iPhone 11 Pro. The old iPhone 4S continues to work well and remains reliable. It is undoubtedly a serious software problem. Make the software and firmware updates. It's the least Apple has to do for customers who buy Apple products for them to exist.

This might help you I got siri to stop actually going to speaker

settings -- accessibility -- Touch -- (at bottom) call audio routing (i selected bluetooth headset check off) closed the setting

now when i ask siri to make a call SIRI SAYS IT IS "GOING TO SPEAKER"

BUT IT DOESN'T GO TO SPEAKER IT GOES TO THE PHONE LIKE A NORMAL CALL

good luck

The same thing happens to me. Very annoying. If you go into settings and change siri to bluetooth it won't roll over to speaker but she still says. "calling ---, speakerphone" I was told at the Apple store that it is a known glitch and should be fixed with the next update. But they have told me a lot of things that turn out not to be true, so who knows.
