Voice control in iPad for iBooks

The last posting I could find on this topic was in 2011. I am looking for the same solution after 8 years of technical advances. How can "voice control" be used in iBooks (or any reading APP) to allow a totally paralyzed person to "turn page" in order to read a book on a screen? (e.g. Hey Siri - "turn page forward 1")

This relative loves to read, but has absolutely no physical way to turn a page, and audio books don't stop when you doze off. (How can you possibly relocate yourself to the last conscious reading moment?)

Hello,

You are very welcome! This technology is going to change so many lives. I am truly blown away with how well it works. Voice Control is available on any iPhone & iPod touch running iOS 13, any iPad running iPadOS 13, and any Macintosh running macOS 10.15. I just personally tried using voice control in Apple Books and it works just like you’d expect. All I had to say was “swipe left” and Apple Books advanced the page. Another great thing about Voice Control is that you can setup custom phrases to help fine tune the experience. If you have any other questions about Voice Control or assistive technology feel free to reach back out to me and I’ll do my best to help!

Hello,

While this Apple support document does not mention iPad (since iPadOS 13 has yet to be released) the information is valid for iPad. In my previous job I worked with deploying Apple assistive technology in education. I have been playing around with Apple’s new Voice Control and the technology is incredible. I hope that it will help make a difference in your individual’s life.
