I have the apple watch version 4 or what eve the newest one is, and it keeps asking me for my apple ID even if I just put it in. I went into settings and there is no option to enter my password to reset. How do I fix this?
I must have had the same person ! Same thing! I think they are like robots and just read a "script" .....lol
The guy I spoke to got my call mixed up with another one and told me to send my IPODS in ......I said "what " ??? So they juggle several calls at once apparently ! Not good service......
I just noticed on iPhone > Settings > Notifications > There is Apple Watch Keyboard. I wonder if that's what it is. Never know what it was, had Notifications for it turned off. Allow shows Lock Screen / Notification Center / Banners. I wonder if that would help…
This is also the solution I’ve found works...if you press the little keyboard on your watch a keyboard pops up on my iPad Ivender my Apple password and voila it stops the reminders until the next iOS update...
I tried that with my iPhone in my hand... tap… tap… tap… nada, zilch…GRR! I'd never had to until I changed my AppleID password. Apple could include clearer instructions or they could be buried somewhere on their gazillion of support pages. We just had a watchOS and iOS update, all fine as far. Will keep your solution in mind the next time it happens! Thanks! (May 22, 2020)
Another poster, Wendyk12 said to tap the keyboard icon (right side of the Scribble icon) on the watch face when you see the enter password message and the keyboard popped up on her iPad, she said that worked for her. Maybe try that. I'm all good for now so I can't verify. Good luck!
I’ve answered this several times now and it always works. Every time there’s a new update, the message appears. Just tap the tiny keyboard and a dialogue pops up on your iOS device., for me it’s on my iPad.enter your Apple ID and your in!
Yes, there are two options on the AppleWatch to update: a TINY keyboard and Scribble that show up to update one's password. I was finally able to get my AppleWatch back in use using Scribble on the watch. Also, once the password is set, there is no need to continually update one's password every time there's a WatchOS update, (unless password to AppleID was changed). As for updating the password for AppleWatch on the WatchApp on an iPad, that's news to me as I've not seen the WatchApp on my iPad or AppStore. I must say, Apple doesn't make it very easy!
Jackrabbit181, You might have to read through this timeline. I was able to solve my issue using the Scribble part of that tiny window, writing carefully utilizing a Pogo stylus in several attempts. Never could access the keyboard. Best of luck!
My watch started requesting that I log back in with my Apple ID after a recent update. When I "rebooted" the watch (press crown and side button), I did not have to log back in. But it is annoying. Apple, please fix! 8/4/20
Hi All;
As of recent 13.6.1- I have a sole watch 3 38mm. The Updates for me on the watch watch did the same thing... Looping for password-the Keyboard directs you to your phone yet, When I went into my general>Apple ID> it was grayed out, couldn’t do anything.
MY ANSWER that worked for me-On your watch use the (freestyle-hand writing option) then enter your password (go slow it’s not forgiving) - you will then receive your verification code and you are good to go.
Hope this helps
I got both Apple Watches working using Scribble (the right-most) of the two tiny icons displayed on your Watch. The left one is the Keyboard. I've read in some of these community threads to use the keyboard which I never was able to activate. (Fortunately patience and several tries got me through with Scribble and I have a very looonnngg password. If you have experience with Scribble, it'll be easier.)
(Note: resetting or rebooting or repairing my Apple Watch did not work. Either way, it asks for the password again.)
So I see in iOS Settings on iPhone under "Notifications", there is one for Apple Watch Keyboard with the usual Alerts > Lock Screen - Notification Center - Banners. I suppose checking all three would get you somewhere. As said, I wasn't aware of this feature until AFTER so I can't say if this is the solution. Maybe try that and come back here if successful. I hope Someone in Apple Watch support will read these threads and board topics and come up with an easier fix because it seems like the blind leading the blind here. Very frustrating to say the least. Best of luck.
That one can be tricky sometimes, as iCloud and Apple ID notifications usually won’t explain WHY they’re asking for the password.
Although from experience this will most likely be a result of the system trying to link multiple services across devices, and having some kind of verification inconsistency between devices.
I suggest a step by step approach, from simple to complex.
Use your watch for a few hours between steps to check if it is resolved.
⚠️
• FIRST BE SURE TO HAVE YOUR IPHONE BACKED UP AS IT STORES YOUR WATCH DATA AS WELL.
• CHECK FOR UPDATES ON YOUR IPHONE FIRST, THEN ON YOUR WATCH.
Now try these:
1) ENTER YOUR PASSWORD WHEN REQUESTED. As soon as your watch prompts you, be sure to have your iPhone nearby with BLUETOOTH AND WIFI ON, then choose either the Keyboard or the Scribble option to enter your password.
2) HARDWARE RESET. Force your watch to restart by holding both side buttons. Release when you see the Apple logo on screen (usually after 10-15 seconds).
3) CHECK APPLE ID ON YOUR IPHONE. Make sure your companion iPhone is on WIFI and properly signed in to iCloud, by tapping your name badge at the top of the ⚙️SETTINGS app.
4) CHECK APPLE ID ON THE WATCH APP. On your iPhone, go to the watch app and find ⚙️GENERAL - APPLE ID. If there’s any request to update your ID or password, enter the required info here.
5) SOFTWARE RESET. *** Be sure to have your iPhone backed up, in case you end up losing data during the process. Your iPhone stores your watch backup as well. *** Back to the watch app. Under ⚙️GENERAL - Reset, try first “Reset Sync Data”, and later “Erase Apple Watch Content and Settings”. You might need to setup your watch again.
6) UNPAIR YOUR WATCH. *** Be sure to have your iPhone backed up, in case you end up losing data during the process. Your iPhone stores your watch backup as well. *** Pop your iPhone AND your watch on the charger, and be sure to connect to WiFi. On the watch app, tap your watch badge at the top, then the ℹ️ icon on the right. At the bottom, tap Unpair Apple Watch. You might be prompted for your Apple ID password here to authorise this. Once it starts unpairing, give it some time to complete until your watch is back to factory settings. Then pair again from scratch.
7) IF ALL ELSE FAILS, MIGHT BE TIME FOR A NEW START. If none of the steps above resolve the issue, one last step could be restoring both your iPhone and watch to factory settings. There’s always a chance that some weird bug on your iPhone is causing trouble. BE SURE TO SYNC ALL YOUR PERSONAL DATA to iCloud or to your Mac, as all data will be erased on this step. Then try to first unpair your watch, then erase all content and settings on your iPhone. Once you’re back to start SET UP YOUR IPHONE AND WATCH AS NEW without restoring a full backup. You can still get your photos and personal data from the synced accounts instead (iCloud or mail accounts, for example).
I am fairly confident that one of these steps will resolve the issue, and any other issues you might have.

I found out what my issue. At some point I changed my Password, but when it asked if I wanted to sign out on other devices, I said NO. Big mistake because somehow the watch must have gotten updated but could not sign back in because it did not have the correct password. Thanks to all the answers from the other people, I learned how to fix it and all is well now.
My iwatch was asking for my son's AppleID. Transpires that in the settings on my watch app on my phone under
General> Apple ID>
my sons's apple ID was entered as well as mine. This is because I once let him use my watch with his AppleID.
Anyway to uncouple his ID I had to go to my Phone (not watch) settings and under
Settings>Messages>Send & Receive I had to take out his Apple ID.
Hope this helps
When I go to my iPhone > Watch app > General > Apple ID it just shows me the email address for my Apple ID. There is no option to re-enter any password nor any option to log out nor anything else. It's purely a place for you to have a look at the ID that is associated with that Apple watch. Is there any other way to try your proposed solution? Any of the 20 users who have flagged this as "Helpful", could you please indicate how you did this?
I've tried everything else suggested in this thread and it does not help.
Thank you
