Failed to restore iPhone XR since iOS 13 released

Cannnot restore DEP managed iPhone XR devices from Apple Configurator 2 (updated to ver 2.10) which the devices have been unassigned from Apple Business Program since iOS 13 released. Once I process restore process, got the error message "(AMRestoreErrorDomain error 10 - Failed to handle message type StatusMsg) [AMRestoreErrorDomain - 0xA (10)".

Is there any solution how to restore unassigned DEP managed iPhone XR devices?

Same issue here with any device that needs 13.1 but i think i have found a fix.

I have found that when i plug one device in and use iTunes to attempt to restore, it pops up with a small update for the Mac in order to connect to the iPad. It then asks to restart itunes once the update is complete.

After this try going back to the Apple configurator and try again to restore from it. You dont need to restore using itunes but just use it to force the update to the Mac.

Mine seems to be working ok now.

Here is the "unofficial" work around for the issue I got from Apple.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We found the underlying issue while onsite at All Covered today. The Mac needs the

newer frameworks installed.

Apple

Configurator 2 Restore Issues with iPad OS 13.1

MacOS

10.14.6 includes the Mobile Device Framework version 988.266.4. iOS 13.1 and

iPad OS 13.1 requires the Mac have Mobile Device Framework 1190.9.1 to restore

or update the device properly. To update the framework you need to plug in an

iOS 13.1 or iPadOS 13.1 device to the Mac to start the update to the newer version.

  1. Connect a device with iOS 13.1 or iPadOS 13.1 already installed to the Mac

running Apple Configurator 2. Use a direct connection to the Mac, not a

connection through a hub.

2. Click install to update the frameworks for the Mac. This will take between 1-2

minutes. iTunes and Apple Configurator 2 will quit as part of the process.

3. When complete check that the Mobile Device Framework is updated in either

System Information or Apple Configurator 2 (About Apple Configurator).

Managed to get an iPad restored that had the same error message today.

Ensured Mac was running Mojave 10.14.6

iTunes updated to Version 12.9.5.5

  1. Ensured Apple Configurator was closed down
  2. plugged iPad into Mac with iTunes running and pressed Power+home button to reset to restore screen
  3. iPad was recognised by itunes
  4. selected restore
  5. update to Mac appeared half way through the restore process
  6. completed Mac update
  7. iTunes now displayed a "restore and update" option
  8. iPad displayed update screen and successfully updated to IOS 13

Will not update any more iPads via configurator to iOS 13 for the time being I think!

Apple Configurator 2 may be downloading the update for the wrong device... Friday I had this problem when updating an iPhone 7 and today I had an issue when trying to update an iPhone 8 Plus. As you can see in my picture, AC2 downloaded the wrong version for both models. Was able to see this from About This Mac > System Information > Storage.

I am the computer tech for a school with 1300 managed iPads (assorted models). I can't imagine the potential carnage that will ensue if this is not corrected. To complicate matters, we have 3 Apple Caching Servers where the updates are stored.

A work around, as suggested by one of the postings is not acceptable in a large scale operation.

Apple must fix this issue immediately.

Same issue : I was trying to upgrade iPhone SE with iOS 12.4.1 using AC2 - error "AMRestoreErrorDomain error 10".

Now I'm trying to restore it via iTunes
