I recently changed my google password. Now under macOS (10.14.6) mail and calendar want me to use safari to update my password so they can access my gmail and calendar. When I click on the "safari" button in the popup, although safari opens, nothing happens. This worked fine on my phone and ipad under iOS. How do I get apple to recognize the new password under macOS?

The article was not very helpful. It says that you cannot just update safari, it is updated when the macOS is updated, and my macOS is fully up to the latest revision.
But, Just to be sure, I did run a check for updates and a new update just for safari showed up overnight. (13.0.1) I installed that , and it fixed the problem.
