Check the App Store and iTunes Store to see if there are any updates for apps/purchases. A request for another Apple ID password is often caused by updates to apps/purchases that were made when using the other ID. Those purchases are tied to the other ID and can't be transferred. One option is to delete the apps/purchases made by the other ID and download them using the new ID if desired. If necessary, check your purchases history to see which apps/purchases weren’t made by the current ID.

Hey all - I just successfully was able to identify and delete itunes files associated with different and unknown Apple IDs. Google "doug's scripts track down purchases." There's also a "apps by apple id" script. The trackdownpurchases script runs for free and identified 6 different apple ids attached to itunes songs. A couple were friends, and a few are phishing suspects. I then paid $1.99 and received an unlock code that created playlists for each Apple ID. Worth it's weight in gold.

My story is that I had found music in my iTunes library that did have the "unknown" Apple ID, however, even when this music was deleted from iTunes, my watch, my phone and my hard dive, it was still causing the unknown Apple Id prompt. My experience with Apple support has been quite positive. I have been in touch with a specific support person who gave me direct email and phone access.

It still may be too early to be 100% sure of my solution, but it did involve restoring my iPhone from an iCloud back up and re-installing the apps. It's been 10 days and no prompt has appeared. I'll give it anothe week or so before I can claim to have resolved my specific issue. I have yet to install IOS 13.3.3 or WatchOS 6.1.1

Try unpairing and re-pairing your Apple Watch with your iPhone. It’s only a temporary solution as it stops the notifications come through from anywhere between a few minutes to a few weeks. I’ve had to re-pair mine twice today. the first time the notifications came through as soon as I re-paired but the second time, no notifications for a few hours. I suspect it’s watchOS 6.1.1 causing the problem. I’m going to reopen this issue with Apple this week and hope that someone actually gets back to me this time.

I’m about to remove some books from iBooks that may have an AppleID associated with them. But I’ve had them for almost a year. So I doubt it.

AppleCare seem adamant it’s a content issue. I.e content that was purchased with another AppleID (this could be songs, movies, books) that could have been downloaded from another source and copied to the phone or via files app.

I am willing to entertain this idea. To satisfy troubleshooting.

They will then likely ask me to erase my device.

I have the exact same issue. Ever since updating to iOS 13.3 and watchOS 6.1.1 I keep getting notifications to sign into at least three random AppleIDs. Like the above person, the notifications always come through to my Apple Watch first and then to my iPhone after dismissing the notification on my Apple Watch I’ve been in contact with Apple over Twitter and they promised to call me back but never did. Previous to iOS 13.3 and watchOS 6.1.1, I never had this happen before.

The issue is occurring with my Apple Watch Series 3 and iPhone XS Max.

the IDs I keep being asked to sign into are: cart816@gmail.com, pirchh@yahoo.com, thaziczg1021@yahoo.com and a blank one which is just “”.

Reading through many threads, most point to either the device being used with another Apple ID, a previous ID not being removed correctly, a purchase that has been made from someone else’s ID, or being synced to another computer using another Apple ID.

  • My iPhone was bought brand new, has never been used with any Apple ID other than my own
  • Has never been used by anyone else, or had anyone else’s Apple ID signed in
  • Has never purchased anything from iTunes or the App Store with any other Apple ID other than mine.
  • My iPhone is not jail broken nor have I ever tried to jailbreak it (no interested in doing anything like that).
  • My iPhone has only ever been synced to my own computer, which was bought brand new and never been used with any other Apple ID

Interestingly I never receive these notifications on my iPad or MacBook - which are signed into the same Apple ID. I also still have my old iPhone 7 Plus signed into my Apple ID and this has never had any pop ups to sign into the above random Apple IDs.

I have:

  • Deleted all music from my iPhone
  • Restored from backup
  • Deleted any apps I haven’t used for a while

Made no difference - the pop ups still came through. So I can assume that it’s not a rouge app or music file causing the problem. prior to iOS 13.3 I had more than 6000 songs synced to my iPhone and never had these pop ups occur. I never synced new music or apps to my iPhone after updating to iOS 13.3.

Then, one day when I was charging my Apple Watch I noticed the pop up on the screen - not on my iPhone. This lead me to believe it’s something to do with my Apple Watch. Note: I have 0 music and photos synced to my Apple Watch - 4GB isn’t enough space for that. My Apple Watch and iPhone XS Max are the only devices receiving these prompts because they are paired together. My iPad, MacBook and iPhone 7 Plus never get the prompts for these random Apple IDs.

After reading multiple posts online, I took the plunge and unpaired my watch, restarted and re-paired it to my iPhone. For 1 week I never received any alerts to sign into these Apple IDs. But a week later they started coming through again - for the exact same Apple IDs. I once again unpaired and re-paired Apple Watch again and for the past 6 weeks I’ve had no notification - until today! It’s started again! Bear in mind, I’ve not synced my iPhone to my computer or synced any of the music I originally removed previously. My Apple Watch is now charging and surprise- there is a notification on the screen to sign into one of the random Apple IDs. So from what I can see, it can’t be iOS 13.3 or my iPhone at fault, it has to be watchOS 6.1.1 causing the problem.

If my Apple ID was the problem, surely I would have had these Apple ID notifications come up on all of my devices signed into my Apple ID, but as it’s only coming up on my watch first, and then to my paired iPhone, it has to be either the watch or watchOS 6.1.1

Anyone else out there have any other suggestions for identifying the root cause of all this - as I’m sure it’s software related. I have 0 music download on my Apple Watch, and have only ever downloaded apps from the App Store using my own Apple ID. My watch was bought brand new, sealed, from a reputable retailer almost 2 years ago.

Any help appreciated.

I too am very frustrated by this problem. I have been collaborating with an Apple Support person. I have deleted all apps, music and podcasts from my watch; unpaired and re-paired.

I followed up on the suggestion to see who had made purchases by adding a "Purchase Date" field to the music section of iTunes (on a PC) and then looking at the Song Info. There was the unknown Apple ID. On the "File" tab of Song Info I did find songs that were related to the unknown Apple ID. I have delete them from my iPhone, iTunes and my hard drive. There are definitely no more songs related to this ID. I had hope that this would resolve the issue, but after 3 days, it started all over again! I don't know if it is cached somewhere. I will be contacting my Support person. The next step was to restore my phone, which I am not happy about.

I asked the support person about a fix that Apple was working on that someone mentioned a few posts back. He said this was not the case as he had been actively researching this problem.

In my case, the prompt first started appearing the moment the IOS 13.3 update had completed. I have also tried turning of my phone when the prompt appears on my watch. After cancelling the prompt on my watch, nothing reappears on the watch until I turn the phone on again after a few hours, which leads me to believe that the phone is instigating the prompt and not the watch.

I hope to be in contact with the Apple Support person in the next day or so to work out the next step.

I am experiencing this problem right now as well. Once or twice a day I am asked to enter the password for an Apple ID I do not know. It started after updating to IOS 13.3 and watch OS 6.1.1

The prompt appears on the Apple Watch first. After I click an cancel it appears on the Iphone. There I can click on "later".

I am in contact with an Apple representative as well since 5 days. But so far they do not have an idea what is going on. The usual "check your purchases history" thing does not work for this issue.

I have reset my Apple watch and at least it helped for almost two days. But after this period the issue returned.

I ended up deleting all music from my iPhone along with iTunes purchases to see if that changes anything. Made no difference, the notifications to sign into random Apple IDs still came through. I’ve noticed the notifications only come through to my Apple Watch first. This happens even when the watch is on the charger. Only after dismissing the alert from the watch it appears on my iPhone due to it being paired with the watch. It has to be something to do with watchOS 6.1.1 because this never happened to me prior to the latest watchOS update. I’m fairly certain for me it’s nothing to do with any music files on my phone as I still get the notifications even with 0 music synced. Unpairing my watch and then re-pairing temporarily helps anywhere from a few minutes to a few weeks. Setting my watch up as brand new again helped for a week until this morning when the notifications came through again. Trying to get through to anyone at Apple to talk though this issue is a painful experience.

If you are having the same issue I had then you're really wanting to determine what files are associated with unknown apple ids. Likely there probably aren't that many files. So run that script and you'll see what users it finds before you have to pay. Since your devices all sync you'll want to screen shot what it finds and then go to each and make sure you nuke them. I paid the $2 to get the script to create playlists with each user on laptop itunes app. Most either were a single song or an album. Good luck

I’ve been in contact with a Senior Apple Advisor over the past couple of days over this issue. When I explained what was happening, they took me through all of the steps that I’ve already been through - including all of the steps and remedies that people on the forum have suggested. I sent through photos of each of the notifications that appeared on my watch so they had evidence of the prompts. They checked the Apple IDs that I’ve been prompted to sign into (I keep getting asked to sign into 4 different IDs including a blank one), and it turns out 3 of these IDs are not and never have been Apple IDs. They escalated to senior engineers who couldn’t replicate the issue, and the next day called me back to install a profile which logs each time the notifications come through. Happy to say the notifications have kept coming through since installing the profile so hoping they have enough data to identify what’s causing this. I’ll be back in touch with them on Monday.

As another test, I unpaired my Apple Watch with my iPhone XS Max and paired it to my old iPhone 7 Plus. When the notification came through to my Apple Watch and I dismissed it, it showed up on my iPhone 7 Plus and not my iPhone XS Max. As far as I’m concerned this proves the issue is with watchOS and not iOS as everyone seems to believe. I recently updated to iOS 13.3.1 and watchOS 6.1.2 hoping the issue would be fixed, but within 2 hours of updating, the notifications started coming through again.

Hope to update you all soon once Support have gone through the data that’s been logged to identify what’s causing this.
