iPhone 11 on iOS 13 having Bluetooth connectivity issues

New iPhone 11 on iOS 13 is having Bluetooth connectivity issues.

both my daughter and I are having the similar issues.

daughters phone is an 11 64GB Purple.

mine is an 11 128GB White

Hers gets connected to her 2018 Toyota C-HR and constantly drops out. Her iPhone 7 Plus never had any issues.

I have mine connected to a Boss BT module on my motorcycle. Never had any issues with my iPhone X.

neither of our other phones we’re running iOS 13.

I updated to 13.1.2 It looks like "MOST" of my issues have been fixed with this latest update. My 2012 Scion xB stock stereo is now not dropping or getting garbled calls. My iFrogz headphones are now staying connected when paused in Pandora.

The only remaining bug(s) I'm seeing are:

  1. Hey Siri is somewhat spotty. Like the phone isn't hearing me sometimes. Very random.
  2. When placing a call via Hey Siri in my car, the bluetooth connection between my iphone 11 and my scion xB, will connect/disconnect several times before the dialing sound starts. Once the dialing starts, it stays connected.

Jehel,

Great! I’m so glad it worked. I know it’s annoying, but it seems to have worked for me. Like I said before, I had to reset as new like 5 times, but that initially stopped my head unit from rebooting. If you notice problems still, you may have to reset it and then NOT use a backup. All your messages and photos and data will be saved on iCloud (if you have them turned on and do a back up), but you’ll have to redo your settings, apps, and logins. Not sure if this is what you did or not, but this is what I did. So glad you’re having success so far!

Try resetting your phone as new. I was having the same issues (I had to reset it 5 times). Download the latest software, do an iCloud back-up (make sure everything you want to back-up is toggled on), then reset your phone. Do not choose from “iCloud back-up” but rather manually. All your info will transfer over, except: you’ll have to re-download your apps, re-set up your home screen, log back in to everything, and set up settings again. Yes, this is annoying...but it worked for me. rebooting stopped and calls stay connected. I had already had my Toyota head unit replaced, as well as iPhone 11 Pro Max replaced. This was what FINALLY worked for me.

Good luck!

Update: Engineers had reached out again and had the BT profile installed again to log after seeing my post on here. They took my log information and as I'm one of the ones that still has problems with the disconnecting and connecting for calls on my old 2014 Kenwood DNN991HD.

They informed me earlier today to try 13.2.2 which just came out.

Good news! if i re-pair and sync contacts, it continues to have disconnecting problems. If i do NOT SYNC CONTACTS, it is holding connection on the call and no disconnecting.

This is the first update i'm seeing progress and success!

My suggestion for everyone that still has the issue to turn off contact sync when you're pairing the phone to the BT while on 13.2.2. This is the work around for me on the latest update where i'm successfully able to hold a call.

Just wanted to add my data point - new iPhone11Pro - current software 13.2.3

Would not see or pair with anything via bluetooth. Spent an hour working on it myself, then 90 minutes on "Apple Chat", escalated to Sr. Advisor, then pushed to a phone call with a tech.

Multiple restarts and resets of the phone and 2 different devices. Fix seemed to be: Reset the Network setting on your phone. Reset each device, even if they all worked perfectly with your old phone yesterday.

And thats seems to work - Samsung watch and Sony headphones are now paired. Will be trying the car shortly. So 2.5 hours total time invested, to find out that whatever network settings my new phone inherited from my old phone somehow created conflict with the new phone. I hope this helps somebody.

I was having the same issue with my Tundra (Entune plus). I had the head unit replaced and my 11pro max replaced. I know this is annoying, but I had to reset my phone as new. I even had to reset it as new multiple times and after updating the software. After iOS 13.2 I didn’t have to reset it (I don’t think). Anything there was something in my back up that was corrupt (it worked with every other previous phone, but not my 11 pro max). Once I reset it as new (so not from a back up) everything works perfectly. My unit no longer reboots and I can be on calls forever with not disconnects. Again, I know it’s super annoying, but worth a shot if you haven’t tried it yet.

Good luck!

iPhone 11 / IOS 13 Bluetooth issue

I have been watching this post for some time given I've been having the same connectivity issue with extremely poor quality. A little history, I have a 2012 BMW and thought it was BMW's issue at first. I updated the software in the BMW to the latest version which available to download from BMW.com. Since I am a family man, my wife and teenagers all have iPhones. 6 plus, 8 plus, and my new 11. Needless to say, the 6 plus and. 8 plus have no issues and never did.

I have been working with Apple Engineering and have test extensively. They have also captured many logs during the different test scenarios. Spent many HOURS with them doing this... hoping to speed the fix up.

The only thing that works currently is if you completely remove the phone from the car phone list; and in the phone remove the car connection "forget this device". It seems the first time connection works for whatever reason each time you do it, but once you walk away and the phone disconnects, its done. The next time the phone and car connects on that existing configured connection, the static, garbed, quality issue is back - CRAZY!

Apples answer as of this past Friday, wait for a software fix! There is no ETA of when the fix will be ready according to Engineers. UGLY.

I guess I am a glutton for punishment (or brain washed on apple products) as I just took advantage of some Sales and upgraded my wife's 6 plus to a new iphone11. Guess what -... same issues on my wife's new iphone11. Apple has some work to do.

So, until the fix, its disconnect completely and reconnect each time if anyone of us drives the car.

If the problem persists after they replace your head unit (not saying it will since it worked on the other truck), try resetting it as a new iPhone. I know it’s very annoying (I did it 6 times), but everything works perfectly in my Tundra. I had my head unit replaced and my iPhone 11 Pro Max replaced. Problem still persisted. Once I set it up as new, everything worked again.

Best of luck!

Hi guys,

Theres a lot of replies here, so I hope this doesnt get lost in the mix, but I wanted to share what worked for me when I first got my iphone 11 and it didnt connect properly to my 2016 WRX bluetooth car stereo.

It gave a message to the effect of 'this bluetooth device isnt supported' and controls wouldnt work such as switching to next song. Even though it did connect and play a song, it wasnt working properly or effective.

I tried updating to 13.1 as suggested above but no dice. Finally I forgot the device on both the car and in my iphone and reconnected, this time when the message came up asking if I wanted to synch contacts, i said NO. This time it connected perfectly and has been working correctly. I'm not sure if this entirely is the reason why it works now and im not sure what that feature is, but it is working now and I hope this helps someone :D

We had a bunch of issues when we moved my spouse from her android to iPhone11. I've had an apple phone since day one, and never experienced any issues with Bluetooth.

Her issues were primarily car connect problems, and it seemed to occur in either my 2020 Jeep, or her 2017 Veloster, where the android device worked fine.

We both have model 11's of the phone. I have the pro, she has the non pro. For me it was get in and go. Just had to remove the iPhone X profile and add the 11. For her, it would not work. We tried everything mentioned in this forum, but I could not get anything stable expect car play, which works great with either device. In the end, I removed all settings (phone stuffs) from the Jeep, then reset the entire Uconnect system inside the vehicle. Following that, I removed the battery terminals for 15min, and that did the trick. No more issues. Why? Who knows.

The Hyundai was the biggest issue, but the easiest to fix. There's the typical menu option where you can add/remove the phone, and another menu option for Bluetooth settings. Because we cleared her old android phone from the system, those secondary settings reset to default. It's critical that those settings be changed in order for the phone to connect when you first start the car. Not sure if this applies to all Hyundai vehicles, but these changes enabled her to use the phone in both autos without issue.

For those with other types of cars/trucks, it may be worth while digging around in your menu screen to ensure there are no hidden BT options.

Aside from that, ensure that all BT devices are removed before you start and while it probably does little, try to reset network settings on the phone.

Bluetooth is an evolving standard that changes every few years. The newest iphones have the latest implementation of this technology, whereas car manufactures take longer to update. Even a new 2020 may have a older Bluetooth chip on board, and certainly that 2013 model will be even older. As the spec evolved, so did the speed, and capabilities. While they claim backwards compatibility where the iphone 11 should be able to connect to say a 1.0 spec, its not always that easy. There are over 30 thousand members on the BT list, and that makes for a lot of different devices on the market. I have a Sony smart speaker from 2008 that uses BT 2.1, but its just not 2.1 that could be the problem, but also any BT chip that has energy saving features. I can use my old S3 from Samsung with that Sony speaker, and my iphone 5 works ok as well. After that, none would work, including my wifes old S5 from Samsung. While none of this should apply to the latest gadgets, especially airpods, it would certainly apply to automobiles.

I have a solution!

I had no issues with my older phone and once I got my brand new iPhone 11 Pro, I couldn’t hold a Bluetooth connection! We trouble shooters multiple things. Apple Care told me that my “back up may be corrupt.” So finally, as a last resort, I ERASED my phone to factory settings! Once I tested the Bluetooth in my car again, it was perfect. It held the connection! Once I tried to reload my “backup” info back into my phone, the problem came back! He was right! Somehow I had a corrupt “backup.” It sounds ridiculous, but it worked. So I have an empty phone that works perfectly on Bluetooth. Bittersweet! Save your photos and notes in iCloud. Use Google Photos if you’d like. This way you can have them easily accessible through your factory reset phone!

This might not work for everybody but this is what an Apple engineer told me to do. You must restore from a laptop via Apple in iTunes. First backup your phone into iTunes. Then Do a full erase. (The same as if you are selling your phone). Then restore from iTunes. (NOT CLOUD OR ANOTHER PHONE OR IPAD). This is because when doing a restore from a laptop or computer iTunes downloads the latest program and firmware.

I did this and so far my problem seems to have been solved. My Bluetooth earpiece stayed connected ok but people I was speaking too couldn’t hear me. Now they can. I don’t know if it is permanent but one can hope. I don’t know about the connection to your car, my taxi doesn’t have that. Good luck all.
