iPhone 11 on iOS 13 having Bluetooth connectivity issues

New iPhone 11 on iOS 13 is having Bluetooth connectivity issues.

both my daughter and I are having the similar issues.

daughters phone is an 11 64GB Purple.

mine is an 11 128GB White

Hers gets connected to her 2018 Toyota C-HR and constantly drops out. Her iPhone 7 Plus never had any issues.

I have mine connected to a Boss BT module on my motorcycle. Never had any issues with my iPhone X.

neither of our other phones we’re running iOS 13.

I updated to 13.1.2 It looks like "MOST" of my issues have been fixed with this latest update. My 2012 Scion xB stock stereo is now not dropping or getting garbled calls. My iFrogz headphones are now staying connected when paused in Pandora.

The only remaining bug(s) I'm seeing are:

  1. Hey Siri is somewhat spotty. Like the phone isn't hearing me sometimes. Very random.
  2. When placing a call via Hey Siri in my car, the bluetooth connection between my iphone 11 and my scion xB, will connect/disconnect several times before the dialing sound starts. Once the dialing starts, it stays connected.

Once again I will put this out there. This is a known issue by Apple despite the fact that they refuse to acknowledge it publicly. It PRIMARILY (not solely, so back off trolls) affects Bluetooth classic connections when more than 1 device is connected to the iPhone 11 or 11 Pro.

There is no ETA for a fix but multiple 3rd party manufacturers (ie: Phonak, Kirkland, Eufy (Anker), etc) have reported that they are working with apple to get this resolved.

IGNORE everyone who says they have steps to correct this by changing settings on your phone as it is a hardware incompatibility issue which will require a firmware update from Apple to fix.

For a little bit of GOOD news I appear to have fixed my issue with MSFT Teams audio dropping. I removed *ALL* existing BT devices from my 4runner's head unit, and removed the car system on the iphone. I started up the add procedure on the head unit and joined the phone. I chose to *NOT* import contacts. Since doing this I haven't had any issues with the audio dropping out mid meeting.

I know Teams isn't the same as the wider problem but given that many of the issues listed here have been for Toyota from camry on up to land cruisers this might be worth trying out as it's relatively simple.

Some have noted disabling apple watch helped. I have no apple watch and still had phone bluetooth disconnect on my 2015 Tacoma. However, the tacoma head unit pairs with the phone as two devices (phone and audio player). I disconnected the audio player device and the phone seems to hold connection. Limited testing, but I’m starting to think the bug has something to do with multiple simultaneous active device pairings. Apple get your lab rats working on this! Sheesh! (iPhone11. iOS 13.1.2)

Same issue on 2019 Toyota Tacoma. Tried all common resolutions. Only thing that has worked was disconnecting phone as audio player. 3 recent calls stayed connected for 15 min plus. Older iPhones work np. Un pairing, forgetting Iwatch did not help either. As someone mentioned it can not hold the 2 connections simultaneously. iOS 13.1.2

That's what most Toyota owners are seeing.

BT connection drops withing the first 5 minutes of phone conversation. iPhone shows it's still connected to BT with the audio system, but the audio system shows no BT connection. You can only reconnect by turning the BT off and on on iPhone or restart the car (which is what you did)

The best approach to resolve this issue is by contacting a senior Apple advisor. No one can help you here, and don't listen to "contact Toyota". Everything worked fine before iOS13. Other BT 5.0 devices also work fine with Toyota audio system.

After spending another hour on the phone with an AppleCare senior advisor who “knew nothing” of the Bluetooth/iPhone 11 Pro Max/iOS 13.1.2 issue and walked me through troubleshooting steps that I have done 5x already, I went to the Apple store and waited at the Genius Bar...only for the tech to tell me that he had never heard of the problem either! He wasn’t interested in reading this thread- he assumed it was an issue with my phone so he exchanged it for a new one.

After setting it up as a new device, I made a phone call and went out to start up my car...............and the EXACT same thing happened as before. It connected to my car, disconnected, reconnected, disconnected, etc. When it disconnects, it does not go to speakerphone- which means I can’t hear anything.

When I ask Siri to send a text, her voice no longer comes through my car- I have to put the phone up to my ear to hear what she is saying (which I obviously can’t do while driving). This means I’ve lost the ability to listen to or send texts while in my car.

I have not noticed any Bluetooth connectivity issues with my watch or my AirPods.

I know it’s not an issue with my car because we all have different cars yet similar problems. (Everyone except William.) It has to be an iOS issue, possibly just on certain phones or certain cars - but definitely related to the upgrade to iOS 13. I warned my husband not to upgrade his iPhone 8 because he still connects to my car perfectly.

Apple- get your collective head out of the sand and admit this is a bug- then GET IT FIXED!!!! This is a safety issue!!!

I spent an hour and a half at the apple store yesterday only to update my 11 pro max to iOS 13.1.3 and I still have the same dropped bluetooth connection problem with my Aminy earbud and my 2011 Ford Edge. (this was their suggestion for a fix) HOWEVER! I just noticed that, after seeing a post on a different site, when i have my series 3 apple watch turned to airplane mode I don't have dropped calls on my earbud or my car. (5 min call in the car with no drops - 20 min call on the earbud with no drops) I don't know if it's an apple watch thing or a multiple items connected via bluetooth thing. It's extremely irritating that I can't use my watch for calls or texts but I need connection in my car and my earbud for work. Are any of you connected to multiple devices via bluetooth at the same time? In particular another apple product and another device? I'd be curious to know. I'll post again if anything changes.

Hello!

So for those of you who have a Toyota, this is what I did. I was running iOS 13.2 before it came out (I can’t use that special word). I was still having Bluetooth issues in my 2016 Tundra (Entune Plus head unit). Yesterday I downloaded the official iOS 13.2 software. I tried calls after that, and phone was still disconnecting. So I reset my phone as new (AGAIN as this is now the 6th time I have done that). This is a very annoying option, but I think that it finally works. I have had more successful after an update when I reset my phone as new after. I don’t think it’s anything I’m downloading, as I keep the phone bare (since I have to keep resetting it). Again, I know it’s not the best south in, but I think that it is now working.

Originally, my head unit was rebooting every 3 minutes (with the original update). I have taken many measures (replaced head unit, replaced phone with a new 11 pro max)...still didn’t work. However, I think that the solution is in this update, you may just have to do a little extra work to get there.

Hopefully this is helpful to someone. I have tried EVERYTHING, and this is the only way I have gotten it to work for me.

Day two on 13.2 and I have not had any issues since the upgrade. My BT issues were all related to my gen1 AirPods not maintaining a good signal and consequently having very poor (unintelligible) voice quality. I've been using them quite a bit over the last couple days and have not had any more issues. I have not had any issues with connecting to any of our vehicles. I will post an update if the problem comes back but for now, seems like it's gone. :)
