contacts no longer sync with BMW iDrive IOS13
I updated my iPhone 6s to IOS 13 and now my BMW iDrive can't access the contacts. Anyone know what's going on?

Yep - and don't tell me it's a BMW update issue..... my X5 is 1 week old and HAS the latest software. Nice job on ensuring coordination!! I would give ANYTHING to unload ios 13 without breaking 200 other things
This isn't solved and doesnt appear to be resolved in iOS13.1 either. It does appear to only affect Contacts stored on the phone directly and not those sync'd with Exchange (OWA) as I can see those fine every time.
I have the same issue, however my contacts are all stored in an Exchange account (I don't have local contacts on the phone).
I do see a limited set of contacts (why some and some not is a mistery to me) from the first part of the alphabet, from the letter Q on I don't see any entries at all anymore.
Removing the Phone from the car and reconnecting solved it once, but the next time the problem reappeared.
An update to iOS 13 didn't solve the issue neither.

Tried it yesterday once more and it doesn't even solve it... yes I do get other/more contacts but it is still random.
Currently I only see one name with N on my carkit, some of other letters and none of some other letter.
It's even so random that each time I get in the car I see a different list of contacts that do/don't show up.
Tried the same… no solution, contacts still appear random (some display, others don't).
Earlier today I even had a contact that displayed as TYPE=CELL:number…
It is clear that Apple broke this with iOS 13... no need to point fingers to BMW.
I just installed iOS 13.1.1 which didn't solve the issue neither.
Initially it showed contacts with Y (the last letter I have contact on) but there was a gap between N and W with no contacts displayed.
Waiting a minute or two… my contacts ended at letter P (and those initially shown from W - Y where gone again).
I'm not sure about BMW, however some vehicles have a restriction as to how many contacts you can sync to the vehicle. I had a vehicle like that and it would only sync the first 500. Considering you say that you are using your work contacts, I wonder if that could be an issue.
Strange that people suddenly start to look for reasons other than iOS 13 why it fails.
This always worked fine before iOS 13 and the number of contacts didn't change. If this would be a restriction I would also expect that it stops at a certain contact... and doesn't show random contacts like it does now.
This clearly is a bug introduced with iOS 13 so can someone at Apple have a look at this… this is really annoying !
Exact same issue on my 2018 bmw 4 series with idribve 6. It’s bugging the life out of me as i have no idea who’s calling , I use my phone in the car a lot with work.
I would not have updated to ios13 if i knew this was an issue. The new 13.1.2 still hasn’t fixed it.
BMW say its an apple glitch and they are aware of it.
Please Apple fix this awful ios 13 update!
To eliminate the number of contacts being the problem, I took all my exchange contacts off the phone leaving only the contacts on the phone (saved in iCloud). That is a total of 286 contacts which seems to be a modest number. I then turned on the car, and counted (manually) the number of contacts in the car contacts file. Only 106 transferred. Some letters of the alphabet were missing entirely and others had a partial list of my contacts under that letter of the alphabet. Turning off the car and turning it back on after a period of time always gives me a different list of contacts that are downloaded. I am on IOS 13.1.2 which does nothing to resolve this problem.
Is it possible that in IOS 13 not all contacts are actually stored on the phone (some remaining in iCloud until needed) and only those actually on the phone are transferring? I am grasping here. Is anyone aware of any other make of car affected by this problem?
Having the same issue. iPhone XR, I updated to iOS13.1.2 in the hope that it would work. Getting some contacts appearing but not all. Most of my contacts are on an MS Exchange account (work) and I can't put them on the phone directly. Is the issue that iOS is only letting iDrive read contacts on the phone and not All Contacts, despite clearly selecting 'All Contacts' in the bluetooth settings?
Its a really annoying problem and bad form from Apple for this not to work. We need a fix urgently!!!!
All of my contacts are stored in MS Exchange... if that would be the issue I wouldn't see any of them.
Contacts remaining in iCloud until needed seems a rather strange story to me... it would mean you need a permanent data connection which isn't the case of lots of people.
Same issue here. Did the connection deletions on both phone and vehicle, worked until next time I started the car. Did factory reload of iOS 13, worked once just as in the deletion and re-pair but then did not on next restart of car. No issue in my Ram. BMW claims no software update on their end.
I'm not starting to look for reasons other than iOS 13. I've been here on the forum for a number of years, and I've seen a number of reasons why something happens. It is easier to troubleshoot outside causes than it is to troubleshoot the coding of iOS 13, since we don't have any access to that.
I can tell you that my phonebook, consisting of 759 contacts syncs just fine to my 2017 Hyundai, and my 2015 Mercedes. Using the iPhone XS with iOS 13.1.2. Apple provides software to the vehicle manufacturers so they can test their systems to ensure they will work with the latest iOS and Bluetooth standards. Not all manufacturers update their systems, and many also fail to notify their customers there is an issue with their systems and updated software. Customers update to the latest iOS, and it prevents their car from working. That is the fault of the manufacturer, not Apple.
I have tried every trick. Format , Bluetooth, Siri reset. Since nothing worked I came to the conclusion that OS 13.1.2 is causing a major problem with syncing contacts on BMW F30. What is Apple trying ? They just lost not me, but 1000’s of Customers because of their inability to sort out all the problems encountered with 10/11
