Uninstalled Apps data use

Hello,

I noticed I have uninstalled data usage under cellular usage. I’ve read that it’s the data that the apps I deleted used, and that it should be cleared if I were to reset the statistics.

However, I reset my statistics, and I hadn’t deleted any apps after that until now. However, again, the uninstalled apps are showing on my data usage .... with like 90mb. Why is this happening?

I have found some settings that might actually be helpful. Try the following:

  • Remove home from Home App (don't know if this is needed, though)
  • Then go to Settings -> <apple ID> -> iCloud and disable the following: Home, Health, Wallet, Game Center, Siri
  • Bonus: go to Settings -> Mobile Data -> Mobile Data Options -> Voice & Data -> de-select VoLTE ON!

My results: Uninstalled Apps data consumption: 0.1kB for the last 4 hours, compared with cca 20MB per hour.

I don't know which of the iCloud settings made the trick. I would bet on Home App & Health considering other post on the Internet. I consumed already too much data to Uninstalled Apps this month to make more test.

Note that all these apps had Mobile Data turned OFF already (as well as WiFI assist, iCloud Drive, Files, Settings, Music, Photos).

Good luck!

I have been having the same issue and I've read both threads. I tried many of the suggestions lists without luck.

The last thing I did was toggling wifi assist ON and then back OFF. Same for iCloud Drive. Toggle On then OFF. These have always been off.

My data usage has gone from 10 mb per minute to 10k per minute. So far this new lower rate of data usage has held for about 10 minutes. I am posting here just in case anyone else is looking for something else to try.

Well, if you've got Apple support on it, not sure what else can be done. But just for info.... I read some other threads and people were guessing that it had someting to do with homekit and/or home app. There's a thread in the German Apple discussion pages that talks extensively about this. So this morning I totally deleted the home app on my phone, then rebooted the phone, then reset the cellular data counter and after an hour my "uninstalled apps" were at 3.4MB. Long story short (too late), it's not a homekit/home app issue.

Please let us know if/when you find anything out.

Thanks.

Home Kit was an option about the usage with support, but may have been ruled out. The issue Apple support mentioned was surrounding Home Kit where a user was recently removed. My status was never changed in Home Kit - added once and never removed.

I have another device that I wiped out and started from scratch where I did not remove any apps, and only installed 1 where I started to see Uninstalled Apps using data again.

I’ll keep this post updated with anything new from Apple.

Over the last month, my updates from Apple Support was...drum roll...No update available yet from the Apple Engineering team.

My newest email update was to install 13.3.1 (which I did Feb 2nd) and reset my Cellular Data usage. Currently sitting at 308KB in under 48 hours. A huge difference from my 4GBs in 72 hours in December, but still creeping up.

after doing the update, I have co tasted Apple Support via my email thread with them to ask when they’d like to speak next since doing the update. Waiting on a reply.

I have not installed or uninstalled any apps in about 6 months. From Jan 10th to Feb 2nd, I had used 485MB of data under Uninstalled Apps with no change to my cell phone usage pattern. Some of the suggestions may work for others, but I use some of the suggested apps regular my (ie Wallet). I hope it can work for some, but with no change to my apps, this is a ridiculous amount of time (and data) for Apple to not know what is happening.

I will say that this issue seems to have improved dramatically (though not completely eliminated) with the latest public beta for iOS 13.4. I have been running public beta 5 since the middle of this week and I reset my data usage to test if this beta finally fixed this issue. Total cellular data usage 475 mB. Data usage from uninstalled apps 545 kB. Much better, but not completely solved.

I was called by Apple Support today and asked to download 13.4 as they indicated there is a fix In this version. They will then call back on Saturday for a follow up.

What I noticed is that my Cellular Usage section went from less than 1 GB used since March 10th, rose to 90GB. Being shocked, I checked the reset statistics and it showed a date from 4 years ago!

I’ve written back to support showing them what happened. Now I wait.

Bump.

Any updates on this?

I have the same problem. Yesterday I totally nuked my phone and installed everything fresh - not even a restore from backup. And within minutes I was getting cellular data usage from an "uninstalled app." I'm already at 1gig in just 20 hours.

Not sure if this is related or not, but my "DNS Services" is using a ton of data as well. This should be very low given the size of a DNS lookup and it's already at almost 1MB in 20 hours.

I've been on WiFi almost the entire time too. I left the house for a bit this morning, but I'd say 90% of the time I've been on Wifi.

Any news on this problem?

FYI - There's another thread with the same issue and no solution - https://discussions.apple.com/thread/250698474

I’m still experiencing this and it has been almost 5 weeks having an open issue with Apple. Currently sitting at 79MB under Uninstalled Apps since Dec 20th which is a huge decrease to the 4.5 GB used in 1 week when this was first an extreme issue. The support person has me updated every so often after logs were taken, to indicate that no update is available from Apple engineering. Next follow up call is scheduled for Jan 14th. I’m expecting that the update will be that there is no update. 👎🏻

Same....I’ve been working with Apple support since beginning of December! My case has been “escalated “ in priority to engineers several times. Guess what...huge surprise....no answers/solutions. The latest I heard was “in cases like these, usually you just have to wait for the next update.” This was right before I updated to 13.3.1. Another big shock....that did NOT fix the issue. I’m not leaking as much data as I previously was in uninstalled apps, however, it is still going up......with nothing installed, uninstalled, etc! In the mean time while waiting for this to be fixed before upgrading to iPhone 11, my trade in value for my 8 has decreased significantly. Was told by Apple to wait and now they will not honor original trade in value or offer any kind of compensation. To say I’m beyond frustrated with Apple is a huge understatement!

I refuse to install this update, it is yet another lemon update from Apple. iOS 13 has been a disaster. If you want a good, unbiased opinion before installing any of these so-called "updates" to see what they seldom ever fix and so often break, go to Forbes:
