iPhone 11 Pro Max won’t charge wirelessly

Brand new iPhone Pro Max 512gb, last night didn’t charge wirelessly.

  • No case on phone
  • Belkin charger that works on my XR

See the image attached, support claim it was charging but there wasn’t enough power getting through so the battery didn’t charge. Their solution was to turn off a feature that is in place to extend the life of the battery.

Im thinking I just need to return the device as it is clearly faulty, any one else had these issues?

See images.

There is the feature of the phone charging to 80% and stopping which is supposed to help with battery life. You should be able to go into Settings / Battery / Battery Health and switch off Optimized Battery Charging.

In iOS 13, a new charging algorithm will keep your iPhone at 80% when charging overnight. That algorithm will determine when you typically wake up and start the day, and restart the charging sequence to give you fully charged battery when you wake up.

This is NOT ok. I'm having the same problem and I read Apple.is doing this on purpose. Don't get greedy. I did not spend $1300 on a new phone to not be able to charge it. My car has wireless charging and it should work! I mistakenly blamed the maker of the wireless charging station and it's Apples fault.

This needs to be fixed! You'd think Apple would respond to these issues!

Apple deleted my earlier post claiming to ‘Speculative’, I was only trying to help other fellow Apple users of iPhone 11 pro Max with my humble knowledge as a practicing electronics engineer. I will try again to help a generic user, hopefully Apple acknowledges and fixes this wireless charging problem

I got my iPhone 11 Pro Max on launch day and same evening it stopped wireless charging. Force restart, tried multiple Qi chargers (my iPhoneX still charging ok on all of these) etc.

spoke to Apple care, they where adamant to acknowledge a problem, but took phone to local Apple store, they tested and replaced - no questions asked.

my replacement phone experienced same problem last week, however was resolved by hard restart.

Yes there is a problem and it is obvious!

What types of chargers are you all using?

I am using a RAVPower RP-PC014

I've tried this model charger, with multiple different charging blocks, including the 30W iPad charger, and it will not work. I have tested this against my 11 Pro, the girlfriend's 11, and a coworkers 11 pro. None of them charge for more than 2 seconds on this charger that used to work fine with my XS and her 8.

Just wondering if it's not actually a combination of the software, and specific chargers. This cannot be the case where I just happen to find three phones with faulty hardware.

Same problem around here. My $1300 I-phone 11 pro max does not charge wirelessly. Have an Atomi 10w Charger which charges my wife’s XS max and my daughter’s XR fine as well as my mother’s Samsung 9. Upon rebooting the 11 pro is charges wirelessly for a day or 2 but then goes into the same problem of not charging. Seems like this is a Software issue. Upgraded my device to the 13.1.3 but it continues experiencing the same problem. Certainly hope that Apple can fix this issue ASAP. BTW a tried my car’s Wireless charger and had the same problem. Definitely a Software issue. APPLE, please fix this issue. Thank you!!!!!

Wife and I both have new 11 Pros. She put her phone on wireless charger at 60% last night and got up this morning to a 60% charge. It wouldn’t charge on our other wireless charger either. At 62% mine charges on either wireless charger. Hers begins charging immediately when plugged in, as will mine. We should NOT have to reboot to get the wireless charging to work!

It sounds like Apple chose to not conform to the universally accepted Qi standards and use their own hardware design for wirless charging (most likly a a cost savings). I already exchanged one 11 pro and still have the same issue with phone # 2 Truth is Apple knows ...but will not tell even their business team or senior advisors what they did. They just say, it's being reviewed and will likley have some resolution in a future software release. Truth is it appears to be inferior charging hardware with the most likely resolution a software charge-limiting process. So much for the latest industry standard Qi high speed charging. The X series was better!

I will agree and back up "PhotographAmerica.us". I replaced my 11 Pro Max and have #2. The Senior Genius Bar employee that fought me on the replacement. "hinted" without confirming that the 11 Pro Max has a different wireless charging system. Also "hinted" that is different than the smaller 11 Pro. I can confirm this as another Genius Bar employee placed his 11 Pro on my charger and had no problem. All the Apple Employees refused to place a Store "Demo" 11 Pro Max on my charger. Will also confirm that the "Factory" firmware on my replacement worked flawlessly with my 11 Pro Max. Unfortunately The Senior Genius Bar employee would not let me leave with it until they upgraded the firmware. Of course wireless charging on that charger no longer works.

Greetings, everyone. I posted earlier in this thread about encountering wireless charging problems for my new iPhone 11 Pro Max. It definitely happened after the update, but after I shut down and restarted my phone, I haven't had the wireless problem since. I have noticed that it charges extremely slow when on the wireless pad, and the battery seems to drain a lot faster once the bar has dipped fast 50%. I will add that I don't use my phone extensively, but I'm having to charge it every two days. Is that the way it should be?

Another issue I encountered this evening is a Wi-Fi issue that I've never experience before. I have a high-end dual-band WiFi setup at home, and this is the first time my phone would not function on either of my WiFi signals. I tried all the troubleshooting that I know about, but nothing would work. I thought for sure it was a phone issue, but I was surprised to find out that my phone would work with several other neighboring Wi-Fi signals. The phone worked fine with the cellular data, but it would not connect to my home network. I was noticing the LTE and Wi-Fi icons continuously switch back and forth on their own, but even with a solid full signal Wi-Fi icon showing on the top of my phone, there was no connection. I ended up resetting my modem, and things seem to be working fine now. I've owned every iPhone model since Verizon started carrying them, and I've never had problems like I've had with the 11 Pro Max. I certainly hope this stuff gets cleared up quickly because I'm on the cusp of leaving Apple phones permanently. Blessings.

Hello to everyone,

There seems to be the same problem with Iphone 11. I have 2 of them (IOS 13.1.3) and one of them is charging fine on the wireless pad while the other one is not (only charges when i reboot for a couple of days). Optimised Battery Charging is switched off on both of them.

What i am not sure is why everyone believes this is a software issue and not a hardware? Reboot seems to fix it but on the other hand how come the other Iphone 11 does not have the same issues?

If it was a software issue then all the new IPhones on the same IOS would have exactly the same problem - this is not the case.

I would be returning the faulty one anyhow.

I have the same problem on my iphone 11. Charger works perfectly on my friends iphone 8 that hasnt been updated.

It is for sure the software though as the phone charges for a couple seconds when you first set it down then just stops.

Its either a glitch or a dirty move from Apple to eliminate all off brand product competition so you’re forced to buy their products.
