iOS 13 Photos sync through iTunes causes duplicate photos on iOS devices

Even the Mac OS Photos does not work proerply after upgradiing to Catalina. Every time I import new photos from an external drive, it takes only 5-10 seconds to find the new photos to import,while I. Catalina a it took over 3-4 minutes and some of the new photos are still missing.

+1, this same exact issue is happening to me. I've got 30k photos & videos in my Photos Library, but after syncing my phone shows 50k photos & videos.

For each duplicate pair on my phone, I found that one photo has location data and the other does not have location data. I think this might be a bug with the new iOS 13 feature that was introduced to allow you to Include/Exclude Location or Include/Exclude All Photos Data when sharing a photo.

Does anyone else see this pattern with their duplicate synced photos?

Today I turned on iCloud Photos on my iPhone to erase the 50,000 photos that were synced to the phone yesterday. I then turned it off and started a new sync, using MacOS Photos as the source. The duplicates showed up again, some are duplicated once, most are duplicated up to 4 times.

All of the photos duplicated on my phone have location data.

I think they need to fix both iOS and MacOS probably to fix this problem...

The Mac OS X Catalina Photos App is so buggy it just keeps crashing and hanging, while the Sync to iOS devices moves to Finder, all the "Copying Photos from..." just disappear

This is good but bad news... At least this narrows it down to likely be a flaw in iOS 13.x... Lets hope Apple sees our little thread and fixes... I cannot believe we are only a select few with this issue.

Same problem here... on my iPhone 11 Pro Max I have lots of doubled pictures while on my iPad Pro many pictures are missing... it is crazy... Catalina and iOS 13 are insanely buggy!!! The worst os ever!!!

Photos App let me choose the cover photos and it synced them to my phone.

I lost that by syncing my Finder Folders directly though.

i shoot my photos on a DSLR, and on my iPhone. I then edit in Lightroom and export them to folders in Finder. Then I sync back to my phone, so now they’re all on my phone edited and perfectly organized...

There's another thread where somebody said that Apple is working on it. I was in the Emeryville Apple store today and one of their Genius Bar employees had no idea about the problem. She entered it into the notes on my appointment, but I assume that's about as good as writing a letter, putting it inside a rocket, and firing the rocket into a black hole. Local syncing has been quite busted ever since the cat releases (circa macOS 10.8). Titles, tags, description, and faces entered in macOS Photos haven't been searchable in iOS since Mountain Lion or so. Up until Catalina, the photos from macOS would at least get copied to to iOS (without the metadata, of course). Now, macOS to iOS syncing is basically so unusable, that I'm considering using Google Photos or something else (possibly just ridding myself of Apple products altogether). Apple has always been overpriced, but at least it used to "just work". Now, we're in the new phase of Apple where it's overpriced and nothing works (even stupid stuff that used to work, like syncing!).

Slightly confused by this ....

....so instead of having the sync pointing to the Photos Library (Photos App) you direct it to the Pictures folder ?

Where will the Pictures folder be hidden?

Will they have originals only or will they show edited versions aswell ?

Will they also still show them as Albums like they show in the Photos App?

in April I switched from picture-folder-sync to photos-app sync, because it was not possible to sync my photos (waiting hours to sync 10 photos)

This worked great until ioS /iPadOS13. Since this time I want to sync a few new photos and on my devices (iPhone 11, iPad mini 5, iPad Pro 3rd) are a mess of doubles. Usually I have about 30.000 photos, after a sync sind iOs13 sometimes 35.000, sometimes 32.000...

It's really really horrible... please Apple fix this!

Same problem, iPhone XR 64gb, iOS 13.2.3, PC windows 7, iTunes 12.10.2.3. Every time I do a synchronization I find dublicate photos and empty photos, some with localization, others without, there are no solutions yet? What does Apple say?

I have this issue too. I sync my Photos library from my iMac Pro 2017 (10-Core 3Ghz, 64GGB, Vega64 16GB, and 2TB SSD) currently on 10.15.1 (most recent.)

I sync it with my iPhone X (256GB) and iPad Pro 12,9" 1TB (2019.)

The iPhone and iPad gets the duplicates. Really annoying.

I have this issue when sync my iPad with Win 10 computer. Numerous duplicate photos are added to iPad that are not contained in source folders for my 6000+photos. I believe this did start with iOS 13.2. Latest updates have not fixed. Apple????

added one photo and synced again. albums are back. cautiously optimistic. even storage is better. no time at the moment to check for duplicates, but an improvement. (sorry for the constant updates — can’t figure out how to delete or edit posts.)

My iPhone is re-building the library, so I am slowly getting my albums back... I hope they will be ok or I will have to delete all my pictures and sync them back... it will take hours... sooooo booooooring Apple!!!!
