Cannot import photos to windows 10 after ios13 update

Hi

Updated to ios13 and now 13.1 but when importing pictures to windows 10 the photos app launches, scans the phone, comes up with how many items there are on the phone and then just sits there.

Tried refreshing the app on windows and also on another win 10 machine but no change.

Also Tried different USB port.

Hi

i don’t use iCloud and either way doesn’t resolve the cabled option I’ve been using for years. This is because it’s my work pc and I take pictures to send to customers and suppliers.

this stopped working right after the ios13 update.

i only use photos on the pc to import and have reset and repaired it jic. I’ll dl iTunes and see if that imports as that will tell us if it is photos or iOS 13.

Hey there Keith.m,

Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities. I understand you’re having issues importing the photos on your iPhone to your Windows 10 PC. I’ll be happy to help with this.

Do you use iCloud with your photos? If so, you can use iCloud for Windows to help you sync your photos over. Take a look at this article for more info:

Set up and use iCloud Photos on your Windows PC

Also, make sure you have the latest version of iTunes on your PC. You can use this link to help you do this:

Update to the latest version of iTunes

Also, make sure you have the following update installed on your Windows 10 PC:

Get the Windows 10 May 2019 Update

Once you’ve done that, make sure you’re using the steps from this link to help you import your photos:

Import photos and videos from phone to PC

Cheers

Ok so 2 pcs and a laptop won’t work. Another pc worked. Came back to my original pc and using power shell removed the photos app and rebooted

reinstalled the app and launched it. Found my pics and displayed them. Imported them but finished with an error and am back to the original condition of finding pics in my phone but then freezing.

😔

I can't import either. It appears that iOS13 broke the ability to copy files to a Windows 10 PC or something? Anyone else having this issue? I can't get the DCIM folder to show up at all. It just shoes an iPhone device in the file explorer, clicking on it and it's completely empty. I have iCloud sync of photos turned off and have tried all of the recommendations I've found online to no avail.

I just wanted to share a similar story. I had no problem importing pictures into Windows with my iPhone 8, although I ran into a little hiccup when iOS 12 came out. The iPhone starting saving pictures in Apple's new high efficiency format .HEIC. I was able to get some photos off of the iPhone back in Oct 2018 and then use a free converter put out by the folks at iMazing to get them into JPG format. I also changed the picture saving format on the iPhone (Settings > Camera back to JPG. It's called Formats: Most compatible. Things were great for about 13.5 months.

Today was the first time I tried to Import using my new iPhone 11. Granted I was trying to import about 600 pictures / videos which added up to about 1.5 GB. I haven't been a big fan of the Windows 10 Photos app as it has given me problems in the past. What I have been using is a piece of freeware for Windows called Fast Stone Image Viewer. You can look it up. Anyway today both Fast Stone and Photos failed. I even tried manually copying the photos using the built in Windows File explorer. That failed. What saved me was the fact that I own the "iPhone Swiss Army Knife" an application called Imazing (available for Windows and Mac) It's about $40, but I got like a Black Friday week special. Using this utility I saw my recent photos grouped into months -- Sept, Oct Nov. I was able to go to each of those months and select all photos and click Export. And then put each of those groups into a folder on my PC. It worked. So it seems like the camera import function in Windows is broken right now, possibly because I had the HEIC format turned on and not the most compatible JPG format. I'm glad I had iMazing but you shouldn't be required to have a $40 program to make this work.

I can't import the photos from my new Iphone 11 Pro Max to Windows 10 either :(

I have tried all the so called fixes. Simply doesn't work.

The transfer starts and then after a few photos it just stops and i get an error message: "Something went wrong"

Or when I try to copy via Explorer: The Device is unreachable" even though i see the DCIM Folder.

Any help is welcome

After I found "Photo" setting, it can auto transformer to compatible format to PC or MAC.

my windows 10 version is 1909 patches, IOS is 13.3. itune is also latest version.....

I have solved the problem -- at least in my case. I had a heck of a time importing photos directly connected to my PC. It was the same problem I had in iOS 12 with my iPhone 8. That is when it seemed Apple forced everyone to use the High Efficiency (.heic) photo format.

I got my iPhone 11 in late Sept -- and did not even notice or bother to check that High Efficiency was turned on. I had a bear of a time getting about 500 photos off of the phone in late November, but as I mentioned before I used iMazing to extract them all into a folder. I then changed Settings > Camera >> Formats to Most Compatible (which is JPG).

Today was the first time I did a photo import. I used the standard Windows 10 Photos app. It worked. There were no issues. I spoke to an Apple rep on this also. For those of you who want to import in High Efficiency (.heic) and not change Formats under the Camera settings, she suggested going to Settings > Photos and under Transfer to Mac or PC -- changing that from Automatic to Keep Originals. .HEIC is now supported in Windows, but I just feel more comfortable with JPG.

Since iOS 12 -- something was screwing up in Windows as the iPhone attempted to change those imported photos from HEIC to JPG. I would rather just leave it on JPG for now. I don't care about saving 40% storage space.

Worked brilliantly thank you thank you, my videos and photos imported with Photos App like lightening after hours and hours of trying to transfer from iPhone 11 to Windows 10 previously.

Settings...Photos...and changed ‘Transfer to MAc or PC to the ‘Keep Originals’ setting and this resolved the problem of them freezing on transfer.

Try going to the microsoft store, go to downloads, click "get updates" and there will be new Photos extensions available. Apparently some of the apps don't update when windows updates and have to be manually updated just like the apps on iphone are different than software updates.

I've spent hundreds of hours trying to solve this problem. I have over 1 years worth of 10k photos and videos that I could never get to import.

I love Windows Photo Gallery -- after getting an email notification of your reply today -- I think I'm going back to it to do a manual import from my iPhone. I don't like to use iCloud photos. I understand that the new win 10 - Photos app has some cool features -- but it is absolutely brutal -- when importing from iPhone since Fall 2018. I have changed the Settings >> Camera and Settings >> Photos options that others have recommended here. this has helped. For some time how I have use a free Windows app called Fast Stone Image Viewer. It does a really good job importing 500 photos at a time. However, today I went to import some pics from my car accident last week. One great thing about Windows Photo Gallery is that it knew to Auto Rotate the photos. I can't wait to go back to it.

No problem with photos taken prior to the updates numbered 13. First 2300 no problem, last 427 all errors. Also Seems that more memory eaten up by each update to IOS and compounded by the Apps sucking up more memory to update Apps. I was able to resolve by moving photos and videos to my PC and now this. I guess Apple wants us to use iCloud or stop buying their products. Maintaining an Apple product is now becoming as cumbersome as Microsoft products which id]s not good.

Initially it didn’t work on some of my photos even though photo was already set to keep originals. 400+ Recent photos didn’t transfer, even after checking setting and trying again. After reading this post I checked to see that my pc had the latest ITunes update and my 2nd Generation IPad Pro was up to the latest IOS update and they were. With my iPad still attached to my ancient PC I restarted it and did the same with my iPad and after telling my iPad to trust my PC again I tried the windows 10 import once again and this time all 432 photos transferred without a hitch. 🤷🏼‍♂️
