iPhone 11 screen scratches

my wife and me have put our brand new iphones 11 inside our pocket pants and both screens get scratched the second day of use (mines right in the selfie camera, apple says “without mal function”...). Has someone experimented somethg similar? We are really dissapointed, apple only cares if you have bought “apple care”....we cant use the screen without a protection: worst screen ever....👎

Older smartphones had more scratch resistant, but more brittle glass.

Since people don't like paying $300 to replace their glass when dropping their phone a foot, cell phone makers overall (not just Apple) moved to formulas that are more shatter-resistant but are slightly more scratch prone.

This issue is solved with a $20 screen protector; you can't apply something for $20 that will stop your screen from shattering in a fall.

@kpfoley: and the obvious is what exactly?

That once again, you're just "joking"?

That actually, no, you do have a screen protector on?

That actually, no, you do have scratches on your screen?

That actually, no, you refuse to give any kind of tangible proof, because you're a "scientist" and "that's not how science works"?

Give us a rest... -_-

"[I don't know what else to say to a person who thinks a picture of nothing proves anything lol.]"

Says the guy who's been moaning about people not showing pictures of their alleged scratches being disingenuous.

But you're right, a picture of anything doesn't prove nothing either.

Your unwillingness to even back up your claims, however, well, that's a picture that says a thousand words...

Wished I knew of the iPhone 11s screens were much worse than the older models before I made the switch. I never had issues before with upgrading to next gen iPhone. My fault for not doing my research. Apple i am very disappointed. I expect excellence from you. Definitely will advise anyone who asks to avoid this upgrade if looking for durability.

Hi there, I reached this thread because I have a brand new Iphone 11 Pro, and after only 3 months, the phone is totally scratched, even with deep scratches. This is my 4th iPhone and none of the previous ones had this critical problem. I always try to keep my phone apart from my keys and so... but I'm very worried about this crap screen, it's so soft...

Most likely you mean well, but please do understand that in this thread users who always trusted the quality of Apple products and therefore never used a screen protector got their iPhones easily scratched with regular use.

To tell them now to use a screen protector is an obvious solution that with hindsight any of us would had taken, and therefore does not appear to contribute much, and only appears to highlight that we were, let's put it nicely, very naive.

I didn't selectively quote him - you did! He was caught in a lie and was called out for it by karsa. Then he tried to qualify his original response.

Here he is making a claim that he has no way of validating:

rbrylawski wrote:

...But since Apple has clearly taken the position that scratching one's screen is accidental damage and is not replacing people's screens, even in hindsight, it make sense to put a screen protector on one's phone after the fact to avoid further scratches.

And he gets called out for it:

karsa wrote:

Incidentally, the second part of your claim is unbacked; Apple has yet to make a statement about "Scratchgate". Or do you, as not-an-Apple-employee know something that we don't? Even so, the claim that Apple doesn't replace scratched screens is utterly misinformed, since Apple did in fact replace the screens of multiple users including myself completely free of charge might I add.

And then he tries to qualify his statement:

rbrylawski wrote:

I think you completely misunderstood my comment. I get that peoples screens are scratching easier than before in many cases. But Apple has not been replacing every scratched screen and Apple has told people (NOT ME) that this is considered accidental damage. People have posted in this very thread that is what "they" were told at their Apple store. If someone was fortunate to get their screen replaced, like you say you did, count yourself as lucky. Most people are not as fortunate. And yes, Apple has not commented on this publicly. They rarely do.

Occasionally, a Community Specialist will answer a question that has gone unanswered (in certain, not all forums) for more than 12 hours and can be answered by a referral to a support article. More rarely, if there is a specific project that a team wants data on, someone will be tasked with looking for examples. But, if Apple doesn't consider this a problem (anecdotal evidence supports that but that's all), they won't have people searching for this thread or others like it.

Where does it say that? How would you know unless you were an Apple employee? You expect me to believe that Apple is just being careless and hasn't updates their terms?

But, believe what you want. It's your time to waste complaining here.

I don't believe hearsay - you present no facts at all to back up your claim.

The only people wasting their time are you and your friend rbrylawski by discouraging people from posting here. People are here posting genuine concerns / frustrations and you guys keep saying the same thing over and over again in a clear effort to undermine them. Again, you're not helping anyone!
