iPhone 11 screen scratches

my wife and me have put our brand new iphones 11 inside our pocket pants and both screens get scratched the second day of use (mines right in the selfie camera, apple says “without mal function”...). Has someone experimented somethg similar? We are really dissapointed, apple only cares if you have bought “apple care”....we cant use the screen without a protection: worst screen ever....👎

Older smartphones had more scratch resistant, but more brittle glass.

Since people don't like paying $300 to replace their glass when dropping their phone a foot, cell phone makers overall (not just Apple) moved to formulas that are more shatter-resistant but are slightly more scratch prone.

This issue is solved with a $20 screen protector; you can't apply something for $20 that will stop your screen from shattering in a fall.

Same issue. 1/4” deep scratch on the front of the glass. I am going to try to get it replaced by Apple. I have had every phone since the first and have never had an issue with the front glass. I too have taken perfect care with it. I am not convinced it didn’t happen at the factory and I am now just noticing. I have talked to two other people with similar issues. Also if anyone listens to the Tech Guy podcast, they mentioned they had the same issue in the most recent episode 1631.

I have the same issue too. My iPhone 11 Pro Max is showing a scratch after 1 day and half of use. Never left home before the scratch.. I put it on the table at night and noticed the scratch on the screen on the morning. I went to the Apple Store but they weren't even interested in my point of view of what I had to say. They dismissed it and if I wanted it fixed I had to pay 360 € or 29 € with Apple Care.

I thought I was the only one... until I think there is something wrong, so I start searching about it.

I used XS Max for a year without the screen protector or case. And I just traded in my XS Max for iPhone 11 Pro Max with full credit - 100% good condition, not even have a single minor scratches on the screen or body (I am a very careful person). So I have been taking care the same way with this new iPhone.

I put the iPhone 11 Pro Max in my pockets (mostly in trousers and sometimes in my jackets - no zip, no hard surface) - which I normally use it for keeping my bare iPhone 7+, X, XS Max safe.

Now my two weeks of the new iPhone’s screen looks like two years old screens.

This is going to be my first mobile from Apple that I need to put the screen protector on it.

I have an AppleCare+, so hopefully I will get replaced and will definitely put the screen protector on. Forever. ... rr.. rr...

PS. (The attached photo) There are more scratches on the top, but it was hard to take a photo of it. Blue one were from the first week and the red one is just happened today so the red one triggered me to post on this ticket.

PS2. At the back of the iPhone is clean like new! I agree, the back is a real tough.

yep same problem with me in germany with my iphone 11. that * scratch came out of nowhere. it looks exactly the same as on the photos already put here. there are other minor scratches or hairline scratches that are really straight als well and might come from putting it in a pocket and out again. but come on: i have the phone since one week ... id experienced things like that in a two year period of usage on one of my older phones but not right from the start. actually my old iphone 7 has two bigger scratches and i remember they came from a sharp key. but this time its different. this is very confusing, seems a SCRATCHGATE is coming up for apple...

Hey, I’m glad that I’m not the only one. I noticed the scratches on my new iPhone 11 in using just three days. I even don’t know when where and why I got those scratches. I’ve been using iPhone 7 for three years and never got any scratch except dropped once.

Besides, I feel the iPhone 11 screen is not as smooth as iPhone 7 screen, especially when you sweep fast on the screen you will feel the bluntness very obvious.

I never need a screen protector on iPhone 7. But when I see the scratch on my new iPhone 11, I realize that I need screen protector. So I went to Apple store and bought the $40 Belkin screen protector and have them applied for me in store. At first I’m happy with this protector since it feels smoother than the screen itself. However, it’s not stronger than the screen because I got minor scratch again without any known reason!

Very bad result my phone deep scratch on it. I think material from iPhone 11 pro max use Scratch-resistant glass, oleophobic coating different spec in advertising. I hate and sold out nothing to say about quality the newest iPhone 2019.

I bought my iPhone 7 in September of 2016. I used it daily until I traded up to my iPhone 11.

In less than 3 weeks of careful usage, my iPhone 11 has more scuffs on the screen than my iPhone 7 did with 3 years of usage. In fact, I have never had an iPhone that has a screen so easily scratched and I have owned a few starting with the original.

This is not a fluke, this is a problem that Apple needs to take care of. It is definitely not the "toughest glass in a smartphone.".

I’m having the same issue too. Never had such bad scratching, have looked after the phone really well and a day after purchasing it was scratching. It even has a slight chip but has not had any falls drops etc. I really looked after it and it’s in the Apple leather case too. I contacted Apple support who said they do not cover cosmetic damage, but I said it wasn’t anything to do with my fault but they didn’t seem to care and just kept referring me to apples warranty saying it doesn’t cover for scratches. To me it seems like a defect.

It’s needless advice. Saying “put on a scratch protector” doesn’t add anything to the conversation. It’s like saying “just leave it unused in a drawer and it won’t scratch”. And saying that all glass scratches makes as much sense as Steve Jobs’ iPhone 4 antennagate “you are holding it wrong” excuse — no sense at all. All glass scratch, just not this easily.

Making excuses for a corporation and claiming this is “normal”, like many people here are doing, is embarrassing because it is not normal. And it doesn’t matter that Apple is not looking at this forum. Users are piling up their reports because they are clearly experiencing a manufacturing problem. The more reports, the better for everyone, including Apple.

You did the smart thing and what other's here should do or should have done instead of moaning to other users.

With a screen protector your phone will do quite well.

Ok. I’ve bought iPhones since the first one. I never used any glass protector. I bought the iPhone 11 pro and was extremely careful and out of nowhere a long scratch along the side of the screen appeared, day 1 of ownership. I immediately bought a screen protector and said in the back of my head, Apple is going to have a big problem with these screens. This is just the beginning of this issue, I promise you. This is the big one, the big mistake Apple made, mark my word. Apple stop production and listen to these users this is a legitimate issue.
