iPhone 11 screen scratches

my wife and me have put our brand new iphones 11 inside our pocket pants and both screens get scratched the second day of use (mines right in the selfie camera, apple says “without mal function”...). Has someone experimented somethg similar? We are really dissapointed, apple only cares if you have bought “apple care”....we cant use the screen without a protection: worst screen ever....👎

Older smartphones had more scratch resistant, but more brittle glass.

Since people don't like paying $300 to replace their glass when dropping their phone a foot, cell phone makers overall (not just Apple) moved to formulas that are more shatter-resistant but are slightly more scratch prone.

This issue is solved with a $20 screen protector; you can't apply something for $20 that will stop your screen from shattering in a fall.

Same here -- I've been using an iPhone 6s for years without a screen protector.

After just one day with iPhone 11, the front screen is scratched. Apple promoted this as the toughest glass ever in a smartphone. So obviously it must be tougher than an iPhone 6s screen, or at least equal, because that is the claim Apple is making, right? But it's not, and their claim isn't quite accurate.

Blown away by just over the course of a few days how many micro scratches were developing on the phone. Always use care when putting in pockets as I did with my prior iPhone 6s which to this day has little to no micro scratches. Shocked and annoyed when Apple says "strongest glass ever" on an iPhone. With the amount of micro scratches after one week, I'm like what's the phone gonna look like after a few months to a year? especially when I plan on keeping the phone for 2+ years. If this is the standard then every employee should just auto encourage a screen protector (annoying though) because it shouldn't need it, some will disagree but if that's the case then auto include the screen protector with purchase. Some forums say due to tougher glass has made the glass softer and more susceptible to scratches.

That's not true. I know and read enough about to know. I went to the apple store today. Returned my phone like a purchase return. bought a new phone and put a screen protector. You wait and watch the next Iphone will have better glass that is scratch resistant and also tough. By the way Iphone 11 Pro max in drop tests have been proven to break much more easily. In one drop. All the same I am not bashing Apple. They just got a rotten supplier. The apple store gave me an option and made it right for me.

I faced the same issue. I swear I handled it like a baby, never even put it down on a rough surface. But the scratches appeared out of nowhere on the screen. I felt guilty for getting scratches on my brand new phone phone just 3-4 days after it was purchased. Went online and came to know this is a common issue with everyone. I have used older models without any screenguards and there has never been any problems.

Does anyone know if apple is planning to do something about this? This is really unacceptable.

So I bought an iPhone 11 for the soul purpose of using it entirely for work. As a motorcycle courier, I kept the phone inside a GIVI case at all times and only open it when I'm home so I can change power banks. Yesterday, I decided to remove the phone from the GIVI case and to my astonishment I find the glass has already been covered with scratches, including one deep scratch on the front!

Just stop. What’s your point here ? If don’t have a problem stop trying to throw a wrench into things. I don’t Care if it’s Corning or anyone else. This screen is not acceptable. Are you kidding me ? There are numerous glass surfaces I use. Just don’t be argumentative. Yeah use your phone and be sympathetic to Corning. Obviously you are fine with the marks and scratches ! So them what’s your point or business ! Everyone can read white papers and details on screens and glass surfaces. I have dropped my iPad and it has not cracked and it has no deep scratches I have numerous surfaces. Samsung galaxy active are super tough. Apple acknowledged the issue and said engineering is looking into it. To many they don’t care about scratches and swirl marks and some do. Gave me a new phone and I put a screen protector and a cover and it’s too thick to my liking but I have to live with it. . I am good with Apples response.

So then what is this for then ? You want to only talk about what is good ? I talk about the good and bad with apple products. People are just sharing their experience. When I saw scratches in 2 days on my screen I though I did something wrong. When I saw others also share the same thing happen to them. I felt better. Apple remedied the screen issue with my phone. I am happy now but carry a fat phone. People pay hard earned money for these phones. They can share what ever they like that’s what it’s for. Why do you try to swim against the tide ? I don’t see a problem and certainly apple gets a overall pulse of issues from these posts on a range of issues.

The back side is just dirty, not really smudges, is it? I can't seem to find any scratch on the back side just yet with mine.

Is it safe to assume that this may be an issue with the coating layer, and not the glass itself? Material expert please chime in your thoughts. Looks like the scratches are mostly produced by softer materials, like plastic, or fiber.

Expressing anger and attacks won't do us any good here, people. I for one claim some responsibility on my part by — according to some of you — not babying it enough. But it still does not explain how, or why my previous iPhones were pretty much scratch-free after months and years of 'abuse' without every putting a single screen protector.

I get why some of you chose to put screen protectors. Please try and understand too that there are those who prefer to use their phones without.

ps. Have you seen this? Painful to watch, but no worse than JerryRig's :-) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K0VWwY6MR0k

If it's unacceptable, then please return it if you still can, this isn't the phone for you.

But don't get anything Samsung or Google offers as an alternative because, guess what, they also use Corning Gorilla Glass 6 and you will find them to be just as "fragile." The Samsung Galaxy S10+ even comes with a screen protector pre-applied.

Also as mentioned a lot of times: you can go to stores with both samsung, huawei and apple - only apple phones got scratches.

You're right, it isn't "Gorilla Glass 6" per se - Apple has custom glass made for them - but it's the same issue that causes susceptibility to scratches, just like GG6.

Please do just one Google search, I beg of you. The Internet is filled with threads where people are complaining of the fact that the glass on Samsung and Google phones scratches very easily.

Why isn't there a huge thread? Because there's not one central forum to complain to like this one.

I also haven't seen any scratches on iPhone 11s in stores when I've looked at them.

Hmmm, that's a good point. Maybe Samsung got ahead of it. Maybe Samsung and Apple had to choose between scratch or crack resistance and they both chose crack resistant but Samsung knew you'd need a screen protector as a result and provided one. That would be sad if Apple dropped the obvious ball if that's the case.

I know I just watched a video where a guy took a hammer to the iphone 11 screen and it took a pretty good shot before cracking, he didn't show how quickly it scratched but I was impressed by the shot from the hammer it took.

I've got to say, I use a Note 8 for work and it doesn't have a screen protector as it interferes with the s-pen but over last year of no screen protector, not one scratch. Maybe it was a bad batch or maybe something went wrong all together but unless these are all fake complaints, something is up.
