iPhone 11 screen scratches

my wife and me have put our brand new iphones 11 inside our pocket pants and both screens get scratched the second day of use (mines right in the selfie camera, apple says “without mal function”...). Has someone experimented somethg similar? We are really dissapointed, apple only cares if you have bought “apple care”....we cant use the screen without a protection: worst screen ever....👎

Older smartphones had more scratch resistant, but more brittle glass.

Since people don't like paying $300 to replace their glass when dropping their phone a foot, cell phone makers overall (not just Apple) moved to formulas that are more shatter-resistant but are slightly more scratch prone.

This issue is solved with a $20 screen protector; you can't apply something for $20 that will stop your screen from shattering in a fall.

The problem is you and everyone else who is complaining DON'T understand the difference between strong glass and scratch resistant. There's a link to an article from The Verge posted several times in this thread. It acknowledges that the glass used on the new iPhone's and the new Samsung phones employ Corning Gorilla Glass 6. This glass is engineered to be harder to shatter from a fall. It does NOT mean the glass is harder to scratch. They are not the same and everyone here is confusing this.

Simply said, the glass is stronger, but that doesn't mean from scratches.

I never suggested you're making anything up. I'm suggesting anyone could have avoided this on their VERY expensive iPhone with an inexpensive screen protector. Whether anyone wants to understand the difference between harder glass and scratch resistance is up to them to do some research.

Then again, this is how my iPhone looks after a few weeks (picture taken moments ago):

How does yours look?

Because even an oleophobic coating can't stop screens from being scratched. I'd wager that most of the scratches (not all of course) people are posting here are the coating being scratched, not the actual screen.

If you do some research, you'd learn this about what olephobic coating really does:

"Oleophobic coating provides a certain amount of finger smudge resistance to your smartphone's display; it doesn't make it fingerprint proof, mind you, but keeps the grease at bay, not allowing it to adhere to the glass."

Notice that not one word suggests oleophobic coating provides scratch resistance.

Yes I did. But even with unfollowing, I'm still getting notifications of new posts (it's an issue from when they migrated the forum to a new platform), so I find it hard not to comment when I feel I have something to say. As long as I'm not violating forum rules, and not disparaging anyone, which I have not done, I am as entitled to post as anyone.

Have a great day Cha0z!

I also have a scratch on my screen (11 pro) which can only be the result of putting it into my pocket (and no, I don't keep coins etc in there as well). I've had an iphone 4 and 6 , my wife a 5 and a 6S and my daughter a 6S and an XS. None of us has ever had an issue like this. It's not a huge scratch but it's deep enough that you can feel with your finger. Genius bar said it's a cosmetic issue and my option was to pay for apple care and replace the screen. I asked to escalate the complaint and was then told that I can choose to return the phone for a refund but they can't simply exchange. I don't know whether to return it and then get an XS or try another to see if it's any different/better. I tend to keep phones for a few years and am worried that if it marks this quickly, what will it look like in a few months time.

People understand that if they drop their phone there’s a good chance some damage will occur. That’s why almost everyone puts it in a case. What people don’t understand is scratches that appear out of nowhere. Apple didn’t read their customers needs on this one. We want glass that won’t scratch with normal use. Not glass that won’t shatter if we drop it off the Empire State Building.

Another day....more scratches. This phone looks years old and I've had it a week and it lives pretty much alone in pants or hoodie pocket. I put it next to my nearly 2 year old iPhone X that has been around the world and the X screen is still flawless and looks newer than my week old 11 Pro. They clearly have some issue with the screen coating. I am going to try and return mine to my mobile phone provider and see what they say. This is unacceptable....by the end of the month my iPhone will probably look like I took sandpaper to it.

I have had the iPhone 11 Pro Max for exactly a week now and have scratches along the edges. This is from normal daily use and no contact with abrasive surfaces. I never place my phone screen down either. Must be quality control...

Anyone having this problem please continue to contact apple and let them know about this. That's the only way they will be able to do something about it. At the very least submit a report at their online feedback center.

I am very disappointed with Apple currently. I bought two iPhone 11’s to replace our iPhone 7 Plus and iPhone SE, however both phones are scratching like crazy.

Our previous devices had no problem with scratching before, so it seems to be something with the glass. They’re stored identically as our previous devices, which were scratch free after 3 years of use.

I just bought my iPhone 11 pro max and has scratches on the screen while in a microfiber sleThis phone has been nothing but a hassle too as the activity from my New watch won't sync either. Having to enter a password about 5 times a day. Screen isn't sensitive and requires several taps ??

I want a refund.

if it's been less than 14 days, and you bought your devices from Apple, you can return your devices for a full refund.

If you purchased from another vendor, ask them about their refund policies.
