iPhone 11 screen scratches

my wife and me have put our brand new iphones 11 inside our pocket pants and both screens get scratched the second day of use (mines right in the selfie camera, apple says “without mal function”...). Has someone experimented somethg similar? We are really dissapointed, apple only cares if you have bought “apple care”....we cant use the screen without a protection: worst screen ever....👎

The same happened to my iPhone Pro. I just got it yesterday and kept it in a pocket with nothing else. Less than a day later and there's already a scratch. I didn't have this problem with the iPhone X.

I NEVER would consider putting my very expensive iPhone in a pocket without a screen protector on it. I actually wouldn't put my phone in a pocket even WITH a screen protector.

I do. Many of us here have put our iPhones in the pocket without any screen protector on it. I can't speak for everyone, but I never felt the need to write about my new iPhone being scratched in the past. It is different with the 11 Pro. A permanent smudge that appears within a day prompted it.

Your hypothesis is sound. And my past experiences have proven that the iPhones have some of the toughest display surface on the market, since the screens of my past iPhones usually looked like new even after a few years. The phone body on the other hand, are covered with fine scratches produced by the micro dust nested between the phone case.

"Your pockets are filled with micro-sand particles. Keys likely won't scratch your phone. But sand surely will. There are many articles about this. When your pants are washed, the lint and dust bond with laundry soap, then get dried to from micro-sand particles. You can't see or feel them. But your iPhone screen can be scratched by them."

These "micro-sand particles" you speak of, they did not exist in the era of older iPhones? Is that the reason why they did NOT get scratches? Iphone 5´s, 6´s and so on I mean.

I had a talk with apple for 3 days.

they decided to exchange the device inside the apple store without no further questions asked.

they gave me a white box, with the iphone sealed in.

no official iphone box. just brand new anyway.

no scratches & slapped a screenguard in without doubts!

i hope everyone gets his issue sorted out.

No. It's been explained over and over and over and over and over in this thread, the new Corning Gorilla Glass 6 is indeed harder (as in harder to break in a fall), but clearly easier to scratch as evidenced by this thread and thread on Samsung forums, because Samsung who manufactures the screens for Apple is using the same Corning glass on their screens. Comparing an older iPhone which is more susceptible to screen breaks to this years model is comparing apples to peaches. They are not using the same glass. And this year's phone would benefit greatly from putting an inexpensive screen protector on it to avoid getting any more scratches.

I have had my iPhone 11 Pro Max for less than 12 hours and have noticed scratches on the screen consistent with all these previous claims. My previous, iPhone 7 has less scratches on it and I used it without a screen protector for quite some time. This is very concerning considering this phone cost almost twice the amount of my 7. Very disappointed by the quality of the screen glass. Shame on you Apple, you knew this was a problem and still sent the product out to customers hoping we wouldn't complain. I hope this gets some sort of resolution as this is a totally unacceptable practice from such a highly regarded company. this phone is literally advertised as being "tough", this is far from that.

I have had almost every iPhone since the first one and never had this problem, until now. I keep my phone in my right front pocket, free of coins, keys, wallet, etc. Three days after purchasing the phone a 1" scratch appeared out of nowhere on the screen. Very light, but noticeable. So frustrating. I find it hard to believe Apple is denying there is an issue, as there clearly is one. I had my X for 18 months without even a millimeter of scratch, and this one goes under after 72 hours 🤯

Thank God you guys don't have a Samsung Galaxy Fold. I'd like to see the complaint thread for that. It's main folding screen scratches at Mohs level 2!

Compare that to Mohs level 6 for both the iPhone 11 Pro Max and the Samsung Galaxy Note 10+ 5G (yes, the current iPhone and Samsung have EXACTLY the same scratch resistance, as does the iPhone 11, iPhone XS Max, iPhone XR, iPhone X, iPhone 8 and iPhone 7, whereas the iPhone 6S scratched more easily [although, somehow, my 6S didn't get a scratch in over 2 years without a screen protector]).
