audi mmi won't toggle songs and skip songs since latest iPhone update

Yesterday I updated my iPhone 7 to iOS13.1 and now my 2015 Audi A3 mmi is not able to control the apple music. The screen appears as normal and I can see all of the playlists. The bump forward/reverse on the volume knob doesn't do anything and the dial to choose songs will move and highlight a song but it won't select the music. I have tried a hard restart on both the Audi system and my iPhone. The toggle features work on the radio and the CD player. I think it's an apple issue. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Hello postj,

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities. It sounds like the car is unable to control music and skip songs after the update. I'll be happy to help.

Here are some suggestions:

If you're still having issues, reach out to Audi directly for other possible steps since it only happens after pairing to the car: USA Customer Service | Contact Audi | Audi USA

Best regards.

I can confirm that iOS 13.2 Beta 3 and Beta 4 work already with Audi MMI. Apple is aware of this problem and solved it in the current Beta versions. Hopefully the final 13.2 will also include this fix. You dont need to do anything with your phone!!! Just wait for 13.2. There is no solution with the current release!!!

The problem is not only if you use bluetooth connection, it also presists if you use the Audi AMI Interface cable - lightning adapter. Apple brought this problem with iOS 13.1. Earlier iOS versions even 13.0 does not have this track skipping problem. The problem happens with different iphone models, i tried iphone 6Splus, iphone X and iphone 11 pro max. There is no point of sending the people to Audi and let them complain about the problem. BMW, Mercedes and other car brands have the same issue with the latest ios update. People buy iphones because of the stable compatibility with most of the popular car brands. Apple broke this compatibility with ios 13.1, please fix the bug!!!

postj,

Thanks for the additional information regarding your iPhone and the car.

Since Apple Music as a whole is also having issues, try removing the Apple Music app then installing it again: Remove built-in Apple apps from the Home screen on your iOS 10 device or Apple Watch - Apple Support

Remember, this would remove any songs that were previously downloaded. They might need to be downloaded for offline listening again.

Enjoy your weekend.

I have the exact same issue on the IPhone 11 Pro. It was working all fine till I uodated it to iOS 13.1. I thought the subsequent software update releases would fix the issue but it didn’t.

I took my car to Audi today and they updated the MMI software/firmware to the latest version but it didn’t change anything.

The guy at the service centre tried his iPhone XS Max running on iOS 13.1.1 as well and encountered the same issue.

I’ve contacted Apple Support already they’re saying they haven’t heard about this issue before.

I’ll post again if I find a solution or Apple contacts me back.

Since installing the IOS 13.1.3 this week, my 2018 Audi Q5 keeps prompting me to enter my password. (Never had this message before.) I went into the Audi dealership this morning and was advised by the service advisor that they have been inundated with similar issues and complaints from other customers. Apparently this update has also affected certain Mercedes vehicles and other mfg's vehicles. He instructed me to hit the "cancel" each time is appears and proceed until Apple corrects this bug. My music functionality isn't working in spite of recommended reset instructions. This seems to be just another "bug" in Apple's latest update. Very frustrated and disappointed.

On the phone with Apple Support. She is aware of this thread (even confirmed this thread number) so knows that there are multiple people with this issue. She also made sure to get my phone type (iphone 10R) and my car (Audi Q5 2018). Unfortunately, she doesn't see that there's a fix being worked on with engineering.

we are going to reset my phone to see if that works, and if not- they'll forward this to engineering. So hopefully this gets resolved one way or another!

I have this exact same issue. 2017 Audi TTS here. iOS 13 was just fine, iOS 13.1 completely removed my ability to select tracks via the car or use my previous/next track buttons on the steering wheel. These are normal, iTunes purchased tracks played through the built-in Music app. I also tried this with my roommates iPhone before updating to iOS 13 (worked just fine), and it's the same problem after he updated to iOS 13.1.1. Please fix this bug!!!

I lost my entire library of music. That really is bad considering I pay for a premium music subscription. Not even an apology. As a known problem is happening I would suggest Apple Music customers be compensated for this complete waste of time of compiling music in a paid service to shockingly lose everything. How disappointing.
